| Day 1: around Oberammergau | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This morning I will take the bus (25) min to Schlo Linderhof, one of Ludwigs castles. I should have most of the day to see Linderhof before returning by bus to Oberammergau with a stop at Ettal Monastery if I didn't see it yesterday. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Day 2: Oberammergau to Landsberg am Lech | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Mid morning I will take the bus (about 20 minutes) to Wieskirche, where I will pick up the actual Romantic Road. I have already seen Fssen and Hohenschwangau several times, so I am not starting there. Everyone seems to say that Wieskirche is worth a stop. I am not so sure, but I'll know after today. I should get to Wieskirche around 11 AM and have an hour to see the church and have something for lunch. After lunch I will catch the bus to Wildsteig, Rottenbuch, Peiting, and Schongau. All of these towns are on the road, but after researching each one, I decided that only Schongau was worth the stop. Schongau has the remains of its fortification - several gates and part of the wall. If time allows, I will walk into the town center and view the Rathaus and the market place. |

| During the week, the bus trip from Schongau to Landsberg am Lech, where I will spend tonight, would take only an hour. However, I planned this day's trip for a Saturday, and that bus does not run on Saturday. I will have to take the train to Pasing (almost to Munich), change there, and come out on another line to Landsberg. Doing this will add an hour to the trip. Oh well, it will give me some time to write in my journal. I will arrive in Landsberg in late afternoon, probably with enough time to tour some of the town. Landsberg is known as the place where Adoph Hitler was imprisoned after the Beer-Hall Putsch, and where he wrote part of Mein Kampf. I had read that the prison was taken down so it couldn't be a pilgrimage site for neo-Nazis, but I read in Wikipedia that it still stand. However, I won't bother to see it. There is still a lot of the old town wall and towers standing, readily accessible from where I am staying in the center of town. |
