Extra Credit
Your extra credit assignments can be a variety of things. I could as for an essay, get you to draw a picture of what you believe the magical creature would look like, or something along those lines. There will be 2 extra credit (EC) assignments per term. The first will be relatively easy and worth 20 points, the second will require a bit more work but therefore worth 40 points. The EC assignments will be different each term.
EC Assignment 1
Due Date: October 15, 2006.
The first EC assignment for term 1 will be available to you immediately after signing up for both class and AutoAssign.com. It is in the form of a quick survey, just asking about what you expect from the class. The assignment will be available through AutoAssign.com. Please fill out all questions to the best of your ability to receive full marks.
EC Assignment 2
Due Date: December 31, 2006.
The assignment is now posted on AutoAssign.com. You must choose 2 magical creatures, either ones we have learned about, or ones that we have not yet studied. Describe the beast that would be created if these two creatures bred. Describe what it looks like, any magical abilities, what it eats, and more.
EC Assignment 3
Due Date: May 15, 2007.
You have a friend named Hagrid, who has always wanted a dragon. You've tried to reason with him- but no matter what you say he is going to have a pet dragon. What sort of advice do you give Hagrid before he picks up his new pet? (Include which breed would be best suited to the new owner, what kind of food it will need to eat, how much room it will require, and any extra spells or precautions Hagrid might need to know.)
EC Assignment 4
Due Date: June 15, 2007.
As the end of the year is coming to an end, I always appreciate feedback on the class- what was good, what could be changed or improved, etc. But to earn the full 30 marks, I want you to pretend to be a newspaper critic and write an article (with a catchy headline of course!!) and give a critique of the whole class. The article should include what was good about the class, what could be improved, what other creatures you think should have been covered, and maybe even an "interview" with another student. The article should be 100 words at least for full marks.
