January 25, 2005 - The scene: Casa Armas Tapas Bar in Greenbelt 3, dining on paella valencia and drinking sangria.

Smart and Pretty Filipina: So you just came back from Boracay?
Me: Huh? (puzzled)
SPF: I thought that was why you were so tan.
Me: Oh, no. (privately - where are we???)

Manila is a different experience of being in the Philippines.

Manila might not be on the hot list of yoga sanctuaries for people to work on inner peace. It can be a little noisy, hectic, polluted and prone to hedonism. But those are traits that, in my opinion, makes yoga such an adventure here.
To even get to yoga class, these Manileanos have to be very dedicated (or they could be crazy). They fight  traffic and pollution during weeknights in Makati. In an imperfect world with demanding bosses and deadlines, they struggle to find time to exercise. Because they have to sacrifice so much to get to yoga class, it makes it that much more important for them. You can almost feel their energy in the dark studio with the makati skyline out the window. This is definately not Kripalu, but a very interesting place to practice and I would not want to be anywhere else.....
