February 12, 2005 - When people ask me what I did during my two years in the Peace Corps in the Philippines, I will reply, "I made friends." Friends are very important to me and they don't come any more loyal, giving or true than my friend Catherine (picture left). I will certainly miss seeing her in person, but thankfully she is quite proficient at yahoo messenger.
What a great opportunity I was given to be here. I am thankful that I had the chance to make many friends in Carigara, Leyte.

But it is time for me to go, I have a job interview in Los Angeles, CA and will return to Manila to do my final check out from Peace Corps in March. So this is my farewell.
I believe in people and I believe in helping people to be happy. In that process, I find happiness. So I hope that my being here has brought a little bit of joy to my friends. I think it has....

To your right, Aileen and Rara model their Meteor Garden/F4 shirts. They are so cute and fun to be around, can you sense that in their smiles? Rara and I are both big F4 fans, we watched their Hong Kong concert on video together. But she can sing along to their songs much better than I can, but I can hold my own.
To your left and below, you can see the "old gang" of my former students who came out in force to see me. It means so much to hear them say they will miss me. I will surely miss them.

This is my last entry from Carigara, Leyte. I have done almost every entry on this site from Carigara via a dial up  connection. It was often painfully slow, but I guess that is part of what makes it special.
What an amazing feeling to have given everything I had over the last two years and to have it appreciated by my children. If I can find a way to live the rest of my life in a similar manner, that would be a pretty good life....
