| December 8, 2003 (cont) - These two little girls (picture left) might not look like much but they are super if you ask me. They are Aliw and Rizel and they are 7th and 10th grade students (1st and 4th year high school). These girls make the house run. They cook the rice, prepare the food, feed the dogs, wash the dishes, feed the pig, clean the pig pejn, sweep the floor, wax the floor, water the plants, set the table and get the food. Whew. It is a lot of responsibility for a kid. This bothered me at first, but I have learned that these types of chores are common for girls this age. | ||||||||||

| Let's compare them to my host brother (17 years old). He has no chores. He comes home from school and heads straight for the TV. If it is the weekend, it will be 15 hours of TV for him all while the girls clean house, cook and wash clothes. It makes me want to throw up. He will eat and leave dishes on the table for the girls to clean. He will eat a banana and leave the peel for the girls to pick up. I asked my professor friend about this and her remark was simply "typical pinoy." Really? It is a priviledged life, more like royalty if you ask me. |

| I lead a cushy life. I don't cook or wash dishes. My family does not want me to. This is the family structure works here so I'm not going to change it. I do wash my clothes and try to keep my room clean. Our 6th grade class recently made Christmas cards for our friends around the world. They are cute. |
