October 4, 2003 - If you want to feel wonderful and adored, you could join the Peace Corps. Imagine riding your bike to school and having kids call out "Kuya Lane!" (insert your name) upon your arrival. They will gather around you and ask if it is their turn to learn computers. It is weird, funny and awfully cute.
I have introduced my 6th grade class to the internet. I let them learn for themselves by browsing though a Filipino Meteor Garden site, a song lyrics site and some tourist sites.

I have been doing a lot of searching on the internet for topics like "computer education." I found a neat program called
ePals. They connect classrooms from all over the world though email friendships. I asked my students if they were interested and no doubt they are. I have already matched our 6th graders with 2 schools in the US, our 5th graders with 2 more schools and even the 4th
graders with a school in Thailand. I am really excited about it. I hope to work so the students do everything. Schools in other places might have better computers but I think we can do it. I have 3 computers that work now at the school lab, so having students type our their mail there takes time. Using the internet cafe is an option, but I pay 30 pesos/hour for each computer. That's not a lot of money, but I do not make a lot of money here either.
That is rice those puppies are eating. I thought dogs ate Puppy Chow. For a Filipino, rice makes a meal. There is no Iams, there is just rice for the dogs. It does not seem like the right diet for a carniverous dog. Look at Tukoy (below), doesn't he look a little thin? There is a battle every night on the streets, so he is tough.
I pet Tukoy whenever I come home so he is nice to me. Whenever he sees me, he hops around and wants me to pet him. But on the outside, he is a rough dog. People stare at me when I pet him.
