| April 16, 2003 - Hello from Carigara, Leyte. "What are you doing here?" That is the first question to be asked of any PC volunteer upon reporting to site. I think I had it all wrong during training. I thought we could do good development work. At site I see it might be better to experience the lifestyle and represent America to others. To be respectful and show an appreciation for the Filipino way of life . To enjoy living and sharing our values. Making my host sister run and do pushups with me to teaching my host family the fun of blackjack. Maybe that is the small contribution I can make. I think it is a neat experience to be interested in different people and how they live. I am excited to be here, I am not sure how much good I will do here. The Municipal Social Welfare Office does a fine job and does not need me. Perhaps just being around is good enough for now. | ||||||||||||||||||
