September 3, 2005 - Last week we wrote about our families in our blogs and I learned that a lot of my students have small families with many being only children. Much different than the Philippines where some of my students had 9 brothers and sisters!

In my quest to learn about my students, I have taken a plunge into the world of online computer games. Ragnarok, Lineage and Pangya are the current popular games for my students. These are Korean games, to show you an idea of the influence of Korea in our region.

My host brother James is a normal M1 (grade 7) student. He plays Pangya every night when he gets home from his classes (7pm) and on the weekends when he has free time. Being online and playing games is the wave of the future, especially when the games are so fun. I play Pangya whenever James lets me and I could easily become addicted. It is fun to play against people you know and to design your own character.
Many of my students do their homework, chat on MSN and play Pangya all at the same time. That is multi-tasking. How good will these kids be with computers when they grow up? Very good.

One of the highlights of my day is eating lunch. At SBW we have a teacher's canteen and a student's canteen. In my taste test, the students have much better food! I eat at the student's canteen. I can have the best lunch ever - som tam (green papaya salad), khao (rice) and coconut juice for about 40 baht ($1).
There is no more refreshing drink than the little coconuts the ladies above serve!

The som tam lady to your left always makes sure not to make my som tam too spicy. Just spicy enough that I break a little sweat while eating.

More on sports day next....
