| Research Interests & Activities My current research looks at the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the UK music curriculum, at secondary level. I have been exploring the possibilities of using a commercial piano-tutor software programme in a music classroom, in the hope that this will create more, as well as equal opportunities for children in obtaining practical skills in music. I hold the belief that by creating such learning opportunities for school children, this will in turn provide better support for music-based activities like singing, composing and performing, as well as enhance the quality of related music-based projects. As a personal interest of mine, I am currently working on a design of a floor plan for a modern-day music classroom, and to be advised by at least one highly experienced secondary school music teacher. I hope to be able to carry out future research work in my other main subject interest, Mathematics, after my studies. I am also keen to explore the general use of ICT in classrooms, along with other pedagogical issues relating to secondary school education. Life as an academic has been exciting: I have attended many useful courses over the last couple of years, and have obtained many useful skills for qualitative and quantitative research. I have had opportunities to attend conferences, seminars, workshops, etc., and presented papers at such events. Through such events, I have met and made many interesting friends with mutual research interests. I have also developed more advanced skills in report-writing and as a conference presenter, just to name two examples. My most recent, modest achievements include: accepting an invite to peer-review a paper for journal publication, as well as co-writing and submitting a joint paper for review and possible publication. |
