| RESEARCH GROUP ACTIVITIES C.A.L.R.G. A member since the start of my study, I have taken part in various events organised by the Computers and Learning Research Group (CALRG), where the main focus is in investigating ways in which computers can be used to improve the quality of education. C.I.T.E. Centre for Information Technology in Education (CITE) is another research group that I have been a member of since year 2000, which carries out research and development related to the application of information technology in technology. P.C.3 I am an active member of a research group in PC3, which stands for Processes of Collaboration, Communication and Creativity. Amongst the wide-ranging research interests the members of this group have, the group's current project is focused on the production of a book that reflects the combined interest of every member. PC3 is honoured to be the organiser for an international conference at the Open University for Society for Education, Music and Psychology Research (SEMPRE) on 24th & 25th April, 2004 (more details here) W.i.P.S I have been a presenter and a member of an IET-based team for the organisation of research students' Work-in-Progress Seminar (WiPS) series for 2001/2002, where regular weekly talks are given mainly by doctoral students from the Open University, with occasional guest speakers invited to share their research work in this active research community. Staff and students attend these regular talks, with the objective of promoting a lively exchange of ideas amongst staff and postgraduate students, enabling everyone to gain a brief insight into what their academic peers are researching in, and to be updated about the progress of the vast variety of research areas. |
| POSTGRADUATE ACTIVITIES P.G.S.S. I was the secretary for the Post-Graduate Students' Society (PGSS) during the 2001/2002 period. All PhD students are members of this society. Although serving a small student population on campus, the PGSS committee members take pride in offering valuable time out of their busy study schedules to organise social events, act as representatives for its ordinary student members, as well as offer general help and advice for student-related matters. Of course... there are the occasional social gatherings amongst friends, course mates and former tutors, etc. ... but I shall not bore you with the details! |
