Cutting out the Footwells

After all the prep work, it came time to start working on the bulkhead, specifically the footwells. I ordered a brand new set from TLR, and they looked beautiful coming out of the box.

The toughest part was going to be to cut out the old ones...largely because of the previous owners. It seems that every time that they felt the footwells get a little rusty and flimsy, they just welded in a new plate. Or, in latter years, they just started using pop rivets and aluminum sheets. What transpired was a bad soup of corrosion and conflicting metals that was several layers thick.

Once I had cut the majority out of the Driver's side door, I noticed that the post itself was in bad shape, and the SPOT was actually a riveted piece of angle aluminum that was covering up everything.

By the time that I had ripped into the post, I found that the bottom 4 inches were totally gone. Off to the hardware store to get some plate steel, and time to beef up the bulkhead!
