| Right off La.14 in Kaplan, west of Abbeville. I was looking for anything to photograph at this point. Opportunities would improve. The road sported a sampling of home town pride. That's important. New blacktop in Kaplan! Just kiddin' Sammy. |
| Not 2 miles above Henderson, La. just far enough not to hear I-10, on the edge of the Atchafalaya Basin. Bayou Amy. This levee takes you to Bayou Courtableau and the control stucture letting water into Henderson Lake. oops, 2 much information. |
| US 190 at Krotz Springs, crossing the Atchafalaya River. The bridge use to be called the Earl K.Long Bridge. Now? No, I wasn't stopped to take the picture. Just a lucky shot. |
| La. 300, Delacroix, southeast of Chalmette, In DaParish.(St.Bernard). A dead end road into the marsh. Bob Dylan made it famous. (to me) |
| Lonely La.14 at the Cameron, Vermillion Paish Line. This curve was the first in quite a while. La. Coastal Plains. I suspect an "alignment problem" here. The Plains are not plain. Treasure pockets are everywhere. Plus you get the Big Sky without having to drive all that way to Montana. |
| La. 499, somewhere east of Jonesborro and north of Winnfield, fine riding. An altitude of over 390 feet was observed, you're darn straight my ears popped. |
| More of north Louisiana, no. Weeks Island is in the middle of the marsh bordering Vermillion Bay It is off La. 83. Elevation of maybe 14 feet. Weeks Island is the location of a Morton Salt Co mine. Weeks is on the way to Cypremort Pt. which juts out into Vermillion Bay and the Gulf. The end of the line. Or one of them. More on dead ends, later. |
| Connecting La.437 and La 40 is La.1129. It winds through the hills and drops down to the Bogue Chitto River's backwater swamp. It is a beautiful road. There is canoe/innertube floating available on the river. It is a gorgeous, sandbar filled, fast running river. Super Summering. |
| Old Lorraine Bridge near Hayes La. It has been rebuilt, Now you can ride from La.101 to La.99. Take Lorraine Road to the bridge from 101 and Niblett Rd, from the bridge to 99. It is gravel in some places but very passable. |
