Are you seeing a trend here?
I've traded my big street bike, the one below, for a lighter more agile muti-dimensioal machine. The back roads I prefer are becoming more "back". I am headed back to my love, I fear, off-road riding. It seems a trend lately. Gravel and mud are dominating the articles.
A busy paved road, La.3277, after crossing La.104, going north, west of Mamou, turned to gravel and has led me to a great gravel riding area along the Nezpique bayou in Allen and Evangeline Paishes. It is a land of transition between the rice fields and pine tress. The roads go and go, often crossing bayous as they travel south from their sources in the Kisatchie Highlands.
The bridge, which you can barely see, affords me the excuse of showing you some of beauty of the Forest Hill area. Oops, I'm off the road. I'm sliding.
Below: Considered a road by some off road riders, this is part of the trail system at Forest Hill, known as the Claiborne Muti-Use Trail System. It is a trail, or a real Back Back Road. The beauty along its route is breathtaking. The riding fun is breathtaking. But, I can't do it with either of my street bikes. I guess old Betsy, the Honda CR500 will get a "due" for the Spring.
I know Claiborne can get repititious. I knew the official trails like my backyard. That's one of the reasons I went back to road riding. There was a time when you could ride anywhere in the forest. Those times are gone. You can still ride pretty much anywhere on the rural roads. I guess that's the draw, freedom. I haven't run out of roads, though getting to unridden ones is getting harder.
Sometimes, though, they're right under your nose. The picture below illustrates that. How many times have I passed up lonely La.975. It is 10 miles, as the Egret flies from my house. Bet you have a La.975 near your house, too, check it out.
The Sun is going down. The sign says I'm home, so I guess this little ditty is over. Roads have forks in them, so we'll see. And, there's no reason both forks can't be ridden. Later Gators.
