Appearing at the top of the hill was the large Bentz Home, built in 1897.
I followed the road down the hill and turned to the right, seeing St.Mary's Drive, the road I had been on. I wasn't lost, a first.
I crossed the small bridge, the lake bordering the school to my right and this beautiful swamp was to the left. The swamp got the picture.
Coming up the hill from the creek, the cemetery was to the left across from the School. I chose not to enter the school as it was Sunday morning and I didn't want to disturb anything.
Still on Old 51, I continued South out of the community crossing another sandy creek which was headed for the river. I wonder if there is a waterfall? Then I saw the home. The chimney constuction gave it away. It was old. Mississippi's Antebellum architecture, what was sparred by the Yankees is awing. "Antebellum" means "before the war". Something I've just learned. It's Latin.
Below is Old US 51. I sure am glad they call it that and not some dumb lane name. It has history and should never lose its identity. This is looking back toward Chatawa where I turned around headed back toward the community.
Below is just some of the close to two hours of wandering around I did. Wonders are I didn't get shoed off. Like kicked out. My bike is very quiet which affords stealth investigating. In it I have found the perfect tool for creeping around.
