| The Transport 8 is a rather slow but agile platform on which many modifications could be added. The model features 8-wheel drive, 4-wheel front and rear tie rod steering, and offers 3 options for gear ratios to suit specific needs. A selectable gear is being developed at this time but is not complete. This will allow the gear ratios to be switched using a 3rd motor (the red micro mini motor would be perfect) if your using the RCX. The 8 can climb moderate slopes but lacks power in higher gear ranges due to its immense weight. However, this isn't a bad trade of if your looking for a little more speed than offered by NASA's space shuttle transport. The 8 still goes well in the high gear range over level surfaces. This is also the first vehicle on which I've tried my Drive-By-Section navigation system. This program was a success the first time I loaded into the RCX, requiring only moderate tuning for good performance. The program, when run in the RCX, allows the user to tell the RCX where to go using the message commands on the remote. Once your destination is programmed in, the RCX does the rest. It follows your measured course around corners, through doorways etc. untill it reaches it's final destination and patiently waits for more commands.
