| Chapter 2 The tears silently flowed down Arizona�s face as she sat, sobbing, on the floor. Taking a deep breath she stood up and paced the kitchen. I just pushed one of the two people I really care about out of my life, she thought. Other then Lexis, I have no one. She walked around her large house in a daze. Every now and then she would pick up a random object and put it away. Slowly she made her way upstairs to her bedroom. She walked in and laid down on the bed. After staring at the ceiling for what seemed like hours, she turned to look at the clock. 10:18. Her attention wasn�t really on the clock though. The pictures next to it had attracted her gaze. One was of her and Trent, taken recently at their two-year anniversary. The second was of her parents. Why is it the people I love the most leave me so soon? she thought as she picked up the picture of her parents. Tears filled her eyes as she recalled that fateful phone call. It was about a year ago. Arizona was watching a movie with Trent, Lexis and Lexis�s boyfriend Tom. It had just started when the phone rang. She jumped up and ran over to answer it. �Hello?� she had said. �Is this Arizona Morgan?� �Yes.� �My name is Officer Bailey. I�m afraid I have some bad news. Your parents, Jill and Rick, were killed in a car accident this evening. I�m very sorry.� She had just stood there shocked. �Z, what�s wrong?� Lexis had asked, noticing the fearful expression on her friend�s face. Arizona hung up the phone. Tears started falling from her eyes, but she didn�t notice. �Z, what happened?� Trent asked running over to her. �My--my parents were killed in a car accident,� she said. From that day on Trent and Lexis had become her family. They were already close, but this connected them more deeply. Arizona was sure that nothing could break the bond they had formed. Now this incident with Trent happened. He had always been a flirt and somewhat of a player. Everyone believed that Arizona had changed him though. He had never had a relationship last more then a month, but Arizona was different and he found himself drawn to her. She had this energy about her that he couldn�t live without. After her parents� death, Arizona changed. Her charisma that attracted people to her started to fade. She became reclusive and soon the only people she would talk to were Trent and Lexis. Trent became bored with her after a while and started to go back to his old ways. This time, however, he got caught. Arizona glanced at the c lock again. 11:58. Shit, I have to work early tomorrow, she thought. She got off the bed and put her pajama�s on. After she brushed her teeth and washed her face she got back in bed. She glanced at the pictures on the night table once more before falling into a troubled sleep. |
