| Chapter 1 Z! Wait! Dont Leave! I didnt mean to! Trent called out the door after the auburn haired girl, now running down the street. She ran about two blocks before she realized she didnt know where she was going. She looked up at the street sign. Maple Drive, it read. Great. I run in the only direction that I dont know, she thought. She stood there contemplating on what to do when she felt something fall on her face. Looking up she saw the sky had grown dark and fat raindrops had started to fall. Even better, she thought and started walking. It was about two hours later when she finally found her way home. She fidgeted with the lock; her jeans and gray tank top already soaked through. After much coaxing, the door swung open and she walked in. From the entrance hall she could see the red light on the answering machine blinking furiously. I hope he realizes Im not calling him back, she thought as she walked over and pushed the play button. The machine beeped and started playing through the messages. Yo, Z, this is Lexis, just callin to see how my fav girl was doin. Give me a call when you get this. Peace. BEEP! Well its good to know not all the messages are from him, she thought as the machine went on. Z, I know youre there....... please pick up........Z, pick up.........Arizona, we need to talk.......fine, Ill try back later. BEEP! Arizona reached over and pushed the stop button. She didnt want to hear what else he had to say. Quite honestly, she didnt even care. He had just hurt her so bad that it was going to take a lot more then a couple of phone messages for her to talk to him. She walked over to the phone and dialed her best friends number. If anyone could make her feel better now it would be Lexis. It rang three times before someone actually picked up. Yo. Hey Lexis, she said into the receiver. Z! Hows it goin girl? Lexis asked. Dont even ask. That good, huh? I went over to Trents to surprise him and I dont know who was more surprised, him or me, she said. What did the genius do this time? I caught him in bed with some girl who liked about 17. Oh, Z, thats gotta hurt. Im so sorry, Lexis said sympathetically. Yeah, so am I. What did you do? I told him I never wanted to see him again and ran out of the house. Hes tried calling, but I dont want to hear his lame excuses. I dont blame you. That boy is trash and isnt worth your time, Lexis consoled. Then why does it hurt so much? Arizona said, tears forming in the corners of her eyes. Oh, honey. If he wants to get arrested for statutory rape then thats his problem. He had the real deal and he messed up. Its not your fault. I know. Thanks Lexis. You know Im here if you need me. I know. Youre the best. Dont forget it babe. Get some rest. Ill talk to you later. Alright. Bye. Bye. Arizona hung up the phone and went over to the refrigerator. She opened up the freezer and took out a pint of mint-chocolate-chip ice cream. Its a good thing Im a girl and I can just pig out when I get upset, she thought as she put a spoonful of ice cream in her mouth. She walked over to the living room and plopped down on the huge armchair. Her gray kitten jumped up on the arm of the chair, purring madly. Guys suck, you know that Kit, Arizona said as she scratched the kitten behind the ears. I cant believe he could do something like that, she thought. Weve been together two years and hed go and do something stupid to mess it up. Figures, the one guy I think is for me--. Her thoughts were cut off by the ringing of the phone. Here we go, she thought. This should be good. She got off the chair and set her ice cream down. Walking over to the phone she contemplated whether she should just pick it up or screen it. After the third ring she decided to pick it up. Hello? she said into the receiver. Arizona, please dont hang up, Trents voice said through the phone. Why would I hang up when I know Im about to hear a really interesting story as to why you through a perfectly good, two year relationship out the window, she said, automatically crossing her one arm over her chest. To be honest, I dont have a good excuse. I messed up, he said. Well it certainly wasnt the best decision youve ever made, she said, sarcasm dripping in her voice. I dont know why I did it. It was the biggest mistake ever and I know there is nothing I can to do make up for it, all I can do is ask for your forgiveness, he begged. Thats asking a lot Trent. Z, please. I messed up. Give me another chance. Honey, I only make mistakes once, she replied, anger creeping up inside her. I need you, Z. What will I do without you? he questioned. I dont know. You shouldve thought of that before you screwed up. Goodbye Trent, and with that she hung up the phone. Oh god, what have I done? she thought as she fell to the floor sobbing. |
