Many owners rent their property out each season but it has been such a success that there are units booked out for the next year or two and sometimes more with our return visitors. The best way is to secure a property long-term. The taxes are a disadvantage to both the owner and the renter: Rental Property Owners (short-term rentals 6 months or less) December 1, 2005 the Tourist Development Tax STATE: The tax is 5 percent on the total rental received from any person who rents for a term of six months or less. This brings the total to 12 percent for renting out your property for less than 6 months. This twelve percent tax must be paid by the renter. A tax form must be filed with Pinellas County.
