It is important for kids to understand that all people are created equal.  Our project focused on changing their attitudes towards people with disabilities.  We accomplished this in two ways.  First the kids got to see real people with different disabilities in our video presentation.  Then we put them in the same positions.  People are more likely to have more respect for something if they understand it.
By placing the kids in similar handicap situations, they grew to appreciate the struggles that people with disabilities have.  Afterwards the kids said that, "It was difficult being blind" or "It was hard to get around in the wheelchair."  All of them came away from the presentation with different attitudes.  We asked them what they would do if they saw someone picking on a person with a disability.  Many said, "We would stand up for them or go get a teacher."
Later we interviewed the teachers and they all said that their students had continued to talk about our presentation for days after we had left.  We think that we made a genuine impact on the way the kids view people who might be different from them.  We feel that our project has gone up the river because they  will carry their positive outlooks through life and, will help to change the World's view of people with disabilities.
