The kids are split up into groups of 6-8 people.

Everyone is taken to one side of the room.

The person in charge (the Procter) reads the following:

"All the space in front of you is now boiling hot lava or "magma."  The object of this activity is to get all of your team members across the lava at one time, using only the carpet squares given to you.  The carpet squares have to touch eachother as well, and there is to be no jumping across the room for your own safety.  If anyone touches the lava, the entire group must go back to the beginning.  The catch is: some of you will be blind and others will not be able to speak or recieve verbal commands.  As the procter I may make any adjustments I wish.  I may take away carpet squares or award more.  Also, I may make different people blind or hearing impaired at any moment."

After this the creativity and problem solving begins.

Make sure to give hints and compliments where needed. At this point there is room for a lot of discussion on what it's like to be hearing or visually impaired.
