| The municipality of Gjilani is located 50 km. southeast of capital. In Gjilan live 140 000 inhabitants, who 90% are Albanians, 2%Turks, 1% Gypsies, 6%Serbs, and 1% of other ethnicity. The municipality has a cigaret manufacturing company that employs large number of Gjilanas. There is the hotel Kristal that welcomes every visitor. The main hospital operates with minimal capabilities, and the intercity bus company makes possible the link of this city with other cities in Kosova. |
| Before Serbian coercive fascistic measure, the municipality of Gjilani had 14 public libraries with 170 000 books. The war destroyed five libraries in Dob�r�an, C�rnic�, Malishev�, Llashtic� and Shurdhan. After the war, the municipality of Gjilani has only nine libraries with 116.832 books. All those nine libraries are independent from the House of Culture and are working on their own. The municipality of Gjilan is home to a significant underground water reserve that had gone unexploited, due to the previous governments�� reliance on surface water. |
| In the heart of the city, the pedagogical college �Skenderbeu� is located and provide education to local students and foreign students. Many Greek students, before the war, got their knowledge and specialization in teaching professions. |
| Gjilan has an enormous and large history. The city dates since ancient time, and it was in the Illyrian province of Dardania. During the Ottoman Turkey, Gjilan was a main political, juridical, military, and an administrative center. Gjilan got liberated from fascists and Slavic Terrorists by Balli Kombtar lead by the city�s Imam Idriz Hajrullahu known as Mulla Idriz Gjilani. The figure of the Albanian hero �Mulla Idriz Gjilani� is very important in the history of this city. Nevertheless, the Albanian National Hero �Mulla Idriz Gjilani� was murdered by the Russian Terrorists and Serbian Terrorists in 1948. Albanian people never forget the National Hero �Mulla Idriz Gjilani� and always will honor the hero. |
