Michelle
Branch & Neil Young Concert
Venue:
HK Harbor Fest, Cost: $763, Date: 6 Nov 2003
Adding
Michelle Branch into Neil Young, and you would have this cool rock concert
featuring two totally same yet different artists. Just watch the show,
and you could spot so many differences: the age (obviously), the length
of appearence, the music form and the audience size and age are just
some of them.
The show started relatively punctual at ten minutes past eight, comparing
to the one hour wait in most concerts in Hong Kong. First to come was
Michelle Branch, who had actually been having a tour in Japan. She sang
most of the songs in her new album "Hotel Paper" and some
of her best hits in "The Spirit Room". I enjoyed each and
every song she sang, and even my friend, who likes Holly Valance, another
emerging Australian artist who will release her new album just a few
days later, thought that she was good.
After a short forty five minute performance, Michelle returned to the
backstage. However, it wasn't until another half an hour before Neil
Young came up. In fact, almost everybody was standing up and dancing
to the music. Neil Young's songs had an entirely different genre. Neil's
songs were really hard rock (although there were some accoustic ones),
and it was too much for me. However, he is also a brilliant artist due
to his guitar skills, even though I could not enjoy each and every song
he sang because of the lengthy pieces. Another note is that his performance
took another lengthy two and a half hours to finish.
All in all, i think that the show was really fantastic. It was really
witty to put two artists of different audience groups together. I just
hoped that Michelle could stay for a bit longer, even though the show
was supposed to be dedicated to Neil Young.
