    The Story
In a battle that lasted decades, King Reginald finally restored good to the land of Harmonia. The Sunlit Kingdom of the Heroes was at last rid of the stench of evil. To each of its remaining Knights he bestowed a land and asked them to safekeep a magical Portal Gem which when brought together would open the Portal Gate between the Underworld and the Sunlit Kingdom of the Heroes.

You are an evil Dungeon Keeper, one of many underground dwellers waiting for the day to break above ground and wreak havoc. The only way that you can satiate your dreams of destruction is to conquer each realm and seize the Portal Gem from the Lord of the Land.

Horny, an arrogant, temperamental beast, is the only creature that has the strength to handle the Portal Gems and as such a partnership is required. Horny is the ultimate key and is the only being capable of unlocking the gate to the Sunlit Kingdom of the Heroes. However, there are a number of competing Keepers who wish to be the ones that escape with Horny. The riches and fun go to those who get there first!

    DK2 Review
This what I think and want to say about Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2:
DK2 is (according to me) one of the best and most detailed games ever...

DK1 created a whole new game-play type, to digg out the ground in order to create your underground dungeons instead of just building things on the ground as in most other strategy games.
...And the best part; You are EVIL not good and your mission is to destroy all heroes and there happy kingdoms...
Also DK1 was in 3D (most strategy games was and are still today in 2D) and you could change the camera angels in any way you wanted and zoom in and out plus rotate the camera freely...
...And that was not all; you could not only play in 'God-view' but also in 'First-person' with the 'Possesion Spell' and in difference to other strategy games get a good view on the map with not only a smal map in some corner but with a large, full screen map ('m'). One other thing was that you didn't 'buy' units in some construction but attracted them with different rooms from a portal. You can not, as in many strategy games, just build some units and then go to attact (well, you can...but not so smart to do) but you have to train the creatures and constantly feed, pay and take care of them... The creatures is not some units that stand still in some corner of the screen, waiting for your orders, but living creatures with needs and demands, if you do not pay them or give them food or a place to sleep they will be angry and leave your dungeon...
The dungeon is always in motion and filled with life and activity, let you creatures train, build traps and/or doors in the workshop, and during the work they will, in need of it, go to the hatchery to eat or the lair to sleep...
In many other games you can research different things in order to improve the units skills and other things and this is also a part of DK...But here you need both creatures and a library to do it and you can only research 'Spells' not improve creature skills...In order to do so you must let the creatures train (in the training room or in real combat). The point is that you can't just pay a amount of money and all your 20 creatures suddenly have level 10, you have to train them, creature for creature...
Also everything is very detailed, backgrounds, animations, units...everything!...in DK, both in DK1 and 20 times better and more in DK2...
The thing I want to say with all this above is that; Dungeon Keeper is not just some fast made game or just an other strategy game but a game that really, really, stand out from the rest. Why? well...first; DK is so different from every other game ever created, more real (how you get units, and how you can train them and so on) Secondly; the games are so well made and well constructed, the detailed dungeon world and it's creatures (every creature got countless animations and faces).

Now the differnt between DK1 and DK2...
First of all: the grafic is very improved in DK2. With a good grafic card like 3dfx voodoo3 (as I got) the grafic just take your breath away...
The details of everything is just amazing and the colored lights are really well made...
The water and lava on the maps are also very well made (even better than Quake III Arena)
It's just amazing how well made the game is and you have to see it for your self to understand it...(If you doesn't know what I'm talking about then download the demo from my Download section and see for your self!)
One other thing they have changed in DK2 are the creatures you can command...
The: Dragon, Tentacle, Beetle, Demon Spawn, Orc, Ghost, Spider and Hell hound are not avalible in DK2 (but the rest is) and the Fly are now called 'Firefly'...
Instead of those creatures you can now command over these new ones: Goblin, Dark Elf, Salamander, Rogue, Black Knight, Dark Angel and the Maiden (only in v1.71)
(How to gain them and info about them read the 'Evil Creatures' Section on this site)
The rooms not avalible in DK2 are the: Barracks, Guard Post and Scavenger Rooms. Instead you can now build the: Combat Pit, Casino and Guard Room...
The Combat Pit are a 'add-on' to the Training Room. The Casino are a place for your creatures to take it easy and play some Black-Jack and take a drink or two...
The Guard Room are almost like the Barracks and the Guard Post, a place for patrolling and guarding a part of the dungeon...
Also your collection of spells and traps are different but most of it are still the same. The only really big change is that the Horned Reaper are no longer avalible as a ordinary creature...Instead you have to summon him with the 'Summon Reaper Spell'. And (I almost forgot) all spells are no longer cast with gold but instead with MANA, the new source of life in your dungeon.
Mana are not only for spells but also to power some of the traps and the substance Imps are made of... The mana are stored in (and absorbed by) your dungeon heart. You gain mana by expanding you dungeon, every tile you take over gives you a amount of mana and every tile you build a room on... Also mana can be genarated by having creatures pray in the temple, with the 'Increase Mana Gift', when you destroy and take over an enemy dungeon heart and if you have a Mana Vault...
New things for you dungeon heart are also that you can 'Sell' back you imps to mana by dropping down them in the middle of the heart. Also you can store up to 16 000 in gold around the dungeon heart instead of in a treasury...
The next thing (good or bad?) are that you only can train your creatures to level 4 in the training room. After that you can train them to level 8 in the combat pit by letting them battle creature against creature.
Level 9 and 10 can only be reached in real combat against enemy creatures...

The Singelplayer mode in DK2 are (according to me) not as good and intresting to play as it was in DK1. But DK2 are really funny to play in Multiplayer mode and really easy, with the 'Dungeon Watch' function...
The screen in DK2 are also not as well made as in DK1, the creature/rooms/traps/spells menus and so on are placed in the bottom of the screen instead on the left side (takes a while to get use to)
The icons for the different creatures, spells and so on are pretty boring and plane but very easy to understand.
One thing I was dissapointed on when I first played DK2 was the spells, the sounds for them when you choose a spell are different...They are still 'latin like' but not as in DK1 (They should have kept the old sounds if you ask me). And the hand of evil are no longer changed to for an example a chicken-like-thing when you choose the chicken spell, only a small Chicken Spell icon appear in the corner of the hand...

This is just a few, but the most important, of the changes in DK2...

Conclusion: DK2 are maybe not as powerful as DK1 was when it came out but still a really, really good game...
In Multiplayer mode DK2 rules! but the game is not as strong in Singelplayer (and the opposite in DK1).
If they kept more of the things from DK1 in DK2 it should have been a mutch better game but still both DK1 and 2 are masterpieces...
If you do not own a copy of DK2 you should run and buy one right now!
I really hope that DK3 are as good as the two parts before and that it's ready at least before the year 2050 !!
