2004 La Hue Family Reunion!!
Who: All La Hues!!!
What: 2004 La Hue Family Reunion
When: September 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th 2004
Where: Happy Valley RV and Campsite in Kelowna BC
Why: Because it’s been to long since we’ve all seen each other! J
At long last we are having another La Hue Family Reunion. Most of you may already know some of the details as we have been trying to get information out to everyone via email and Rachel has even created a website to keep people up to date. However, not everyone in the family has email and so we waited until we had concrete information before we sent out an official letter through the mail. Thanks a bunch Marne for gathering all of the addresses!!
Okay the first thing on everyone’s mind is “How much is this going to cost?” A quick overview of what we have planned is for everyone to camp at the Happy Valley RV and Campsite for 3 to 4 days and each morning we will provide breakfast and each night dinner, along with a special dinner Saturday night. We also have a few special little things planned and we hope a fun time will be had by all.
COST:
We will be providing a pancake breakfast each morning, dinner Friday and Sunday evenings, and a special dinner Saturday night. We have worked out the cost to be $15/day per person. That will equal to $45/person for the entire weekend (i.e. Friday and Monday are combined into one day). We will need this money as soon as possible, August 1st at the absolute latest. Please send a cheque or money order made out to Marcelle La Hue to the following address:
145 – 1555 Howe Rd.
Kamloops BC V1S 1Y4
We are not charging for children 9 years and under.
The cost for camping is NOT included in the above price; please see below for that information.
ACCOMMODATION:
Each person is responsible for booking their own camping spot or hotel room for the weekend. The campsite that we have chosen (after an exhaustive search!) is the Happy Valley RV and Campsite. There is a link to their website from the La Hue Reunion page, which is at the following address for those who have not yet seen it, www.geocities.com/lahue2004. Happy Valley is set up with full RV hook ups, Camper hook ups, and tenting sites. There are flush toilets, showers, a small store, a playground and of course a beautiful beach on Okanagan Lake! The prices are as follows:
· Tenting with out any power hook ups $ 22.00
· Tenting with power hook ups $ 30.00
· Full RV or Camper hook up (away from beach) $ 35.00
· Full RV or Camper hook up (on Beach) $ 40.00
For each site the max amount of people is 2 adults and 2 children. If it is going to be just adults then it is 2 adults and an additional $4.00 per adult after that with a max of 4 adult’s total. It is $2.00 for each additional child.
We have included a brochure for the campground and on it is a map, we have highlighted the spots we have asked them to hold for us, as you can see we are right on the beach! When you call to book your spot please indicate which site number you want, make sure to have a secondary choice in case somebody else has already reserved that one. Sites 7 – 15 are where the main eating area is going to be, and is sort of the main area, so if you want a quiet spot it would be best to pick one on the far left hand side of the grounds. Boat moorage is available for $10.00/day but space is limited so reserve your spot ahead of time ASAP.
It is important for you all to book your spot and pay your deposit ASAP as we don’t know how busy they will be Labour Day weekend and we would hate for anybody to not have a spot. The full RV hook ups on the beach go very quickly so you will want to book them right away if you want one of those spots. It is also very important to note that this is a quite campground where some people live year round, and so there can be no loud parties, or any music, or we will be asked to leave. They are aware that this is a family reunion; however, they told us that their rules are strictly enforced. There is a list of their rules on the back of the brochure included.
Some of you have stated that you would like to stay in a hotel rather than camp; we have located two hotels close to the campgrounds and found price info for your convenience. The first one is the Comfort Inn, prices are as follows:
You will need to book your room immediately, to do so call 250 769 2355. The second hotel is the Holiday Inn and prices are as follows:
Again you will need to book right away; their number is 250 768 8879. There are plenty of other hotels and motels in the area these two were the closest.
OTHER THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:
We thought it would be fun to give each family a different colour, so that we will be able to tell who belongs to whom. You don’t have to get anything fancy, but if you want to go all out that’s fine too. What we suggest is to just bring a t-shirt or pair of shorts or even a handkerchief in your family’s colours (or if you really want to get crazy design a flag to put up at your campsite!). Okay here are the colours we have chosen for each of the family lines:
Bill – Red Mildred – Yellow Charles – Orange Mabelle – Pink Dorothy – White Mary – Purple Roger – Blue Johnny – Green
Next we thought it would be nice to put up, in the main eating area, a collage of photos for each family. We will provide one large poster paper each for each family line and each family would be responsible for providing their own photos and then creating the collage. It might be an idea to write your name on the back of any photo so there are no confusions over whose photo is whose.
Marcelle and Rachel (with a lot of help from Cheryl and Uncle Roger) are creating a brief booklet of the La Hue family history. They will be available, at cost, at the reunion. As well we will have a family tree posted dating back to when the La Hues first came over from France (1600’s!).
