Administrator Assessment Information
As a teacher, I will
use the New York State Music standards to provide instruction and assessment of
student performance. While assessing students I will use various assessment
methods to incorporate band rehearsals,
band portfolios, and small group lesson performance. Students
will be able to perform a wide variety of band music of varying difficulty
through practice, critical listening, discussion and evaluation.
I personally feel that instrumental music is primarily a performance based activity. I believe in using the same concepts and ideas of the book, "Teaching Music through Performance in Band: Vol. 1 through Vol. 5 written by North Texas Wind Symphony Eugene Corporon, Conductor and by Larry Blocher, Eugene Corporon, Ray Cramer, Tim Lautzenheiser, Edward S. Lisk, Richard Miles, and Jack Stamp; compiled and edited by Richard Miles respectively. I also enjoy using Dr. Edward S. Lisk's, "Creative Director" Series of books. I think that using that using real life performance examples and material gives validity, reliability and further meaning to students as they acquire musical skills and knowledge.
Due to my strong performance basis of music instruction I have incorporated the use of rubrics through out my instruction. I think you will find the grading policies found at student grading policies very extensive and effective.
