Who Knows- Chapter One
Lori: Why are we here?
She looked around at the deserted mall and then looked at her friend Kristin Cavalleri, who looked like she was extremely excited to be there.
Lori: Oh. Come on Kristin. Can't you just tell me?
Kristin: No. I can't. (pause) Now let's go. We have to be at Sam Goody in an hour. I mean, in three minutes.
Lori: Kristin are you OK? You're acting really weird.
Kristin: Yeah I'm fine. Never better. Now let's go.
Lori: I wish I was back in Laguna.
Kristin: (smiling) Yeah me too. I really wish I was back in Laguna. I miss it so much.
Lori: Even the drama?
Kristin: Sort of but not really. I mean I hate the drama. It's so stupid.
Lori: I couldn't agree more. I mean, the fights- the fights are like really stupid.
Kristin: Yeah.
When Lori and Kristin walked into Sam Goody three minutes later Lori was in complete shock to see the five guys they had met a couple days ago. She immediately looked at Greg, who was looking at her.
Kristin: Hey guys.
Guys: Hey Kristin. Hey Lorr.
Kristin: How long have you guys been waiting?
Greg: Not very long.
Matt: We just got here.
Lori: So did we.
Greg: (looking at Lori) So when are we- I mean when are we going- when are you going back to Laguna Beach?
Lori: Tomorrow.
Greg: That sucks.
Lori: (confusef) Why does that suck?
Greg: Because I---
Lori: Because you what?
Greg: Nothing. Never mind.
Chris: It seems like you guys just got here. I can't believe you're leaving already.
Lori: We miss Laguna.
Kristin: We really miss Laguna.
Chris: Aren't you guys going to miss us?
Lori: Yeah.
Chris: You're not just saying that are you?
Kristin: No she's not just saying that. We are going to miss you guys.
Greg: We're going to miss you too. Really miss you. (pause) Lorr, I'm really going to miss you.
Lori: I'm really going to miss you, too.
Greg: Do you think we could talk alone Lorr?
Lori: Sure.
The two walked away leaving Lori's friend Kristin alone with Chris, Matt, Frankie and Jesse. Once they were out of hearing distance Greg started a conversation.
Greg: So um when are you leaving tomorrow?
Lori: At 7 PM.
Greg: Do you think we could spend the day together?
Lori: I don't know.
Greg: Lorr there's something I need to tell you.
Lori: And what's that?
Greg: I- I think-----
Lori: You think ----- what?
Greg: I think I'm in l- love with you.
Lori: Wh- What did you just say?
Greg: I said that I think I'm in love with you.
Lori: You can't be serious.
Greg: I know you told me not to fall in love with you, but you're so incredible. You're not like the other girls around here or like the girls I've met. I just- I think you're amazing.
Lori: I'm not like the other girls you've met because I'm from Laguna- a small beach community. That and the fact I'm a spoiled brat.
Greg: Spoiled brat?
Lori: Yeah. I always get what I want. I just- I don't know. I love my life. I love being me. I have the sweetest life.
Greg: Basicaly you're living in a fairytale. You get treated like a princess.
Lori: Never thought of it that way but now that you mention it, yeah I guess you're right. But there's one thing missing.
Greg: And what's that?
She stared into his eyes, scared of the way he was looking at her.
Lori: My Prince Charming.
Greg: Oh. Yeah. Right. Well I'm sure you'll find your Prince Charming someday. (pause) I mean he could be right in front of you.
Lori: Greg what are you saying?
Greg: I'm saying let me be your Prince Charming. I'm saying let me be the one. I'm saying- I love you and want to be with you. I want to take care of you.
Lori: I told you not to.
Greg: Told me not to what?
Lori: Told you not to fall in love with me.
Greg: You think I love you?
Lori: You just said you did. What? Are you like lying to me?
Greg: No I'm not lying. I mean- Lorr- look in my eyes and tell me that there isn't love there.
Lori just looked at him, unable to speak. Then he moved closer to her and took her hand in his. Her heart started racing and an unexplainable feeling came over.
Lori: Greg.
Greg: Yeah?
Lori: Remember when we were at the beach?
Greg: Are you kidding? I dream about that night all the time. (pause) So um what about it?
Lori- Well I- I like you a lot and just-
Greg: You don't regret it, do you? I mean, hooking up.....
Lori: Honestly?
Greg: Yeah, honestly.
Lori: No, I don't regret hooking up with you. (pause) Greg, when I was- I mean when we're together- I don't know. Never mind.
Greg: You felt safe with me?
Lori: Y- Yeah. (pause) I feel really safe when I'm with you. (pause) Do you regret hooking up with me?
Greg: No. I don't regret hooking up with you. If I had a chance I'd hook up with you all over again.
Lori: You would?
Greg: Yeah, I would. (pause) I just want to know something.
Lori: And what's that?
Greg: If you have a guy waiting for you back home in Laguna....and why you don't want to get involved.
Lori: No and because I don't know if I could handle a long- distance relationship.
Greg: But we could work at it and it's not like you're going through- I mean it's not like you'd be going through it alone. I'm here.
Lori: What happens if you meet another girl or somethin'?
Greg: I won't meet anyone like you Lorr. I just know I won't. No girl can compare to you. And you already stole my heart. Plus you---- (pause) We hooked up and you took my----
Lori: Virginity.
He just nodded, blushing from embarrassment.
Lori: I know I'm considered a party girl or whatever but you took my virginity, too. (pause) I don't know how to say this, but you're the greatest thing that ever happened to me. I'm just scared I'm going to lose you...and I don't want that to happen.
Greg: You'll never lose me. I'm always going to be here.
Lori: How can you be so sure?
Greg: Because I have faith.
Lori thought for a minute, looked around and saw Kristin talking with the guys. Then she got the best idea.
Lori: You should come to Laguna with us.
Greg looked at her then he ended up coming up with his own idea.
Greg: Come on tour with me.
Lori: Are you serious? You want me to come on tour with you?
Greg: You know I am. If you want Kristin can come too, but I think Matt already asked her.
Lori: I never go anywhere without Kristin. She's my best friend.
Greg: I know she is. (pause) So will you?
Lori: Let me think about it, OK?
* With Kristin and the Guys *
Matt: Will we ever see each other again?
Kristin: I don't know. Maybe.
Matt: I'm gonna miss you.
Kristin: I'm gonna miss you, too.
Chris: I wish you and Lorr could stay.
Kristin: I know but we like really miss Laguna Beach. We love it there.
Frankie: Didn't you have fun in New York?
Kristin: Yeah I did. The parties were awesome. You guys were awesome. It's just- I miss the beach. I miss my house. I miss my friends. I miss my home. I miss Laguna. (pause) You guys must know what it feels like when you're touring. Don't you wish you were home sometimes?
Guys: Yeah, sometimes, but we have fun touring. Seeing the fans...performing...
Kristin: Yeah. I get what you're saying but still--- don't you wish you could just be normal? I mean yesterday you guys were at the mall just hanging out with me and Lorr and like all those girls followed you and shit. (pause) That has to be annoying. (pause) And this girl who me and Lori didn't know harrassed us and said that you guys belonged to her and she went on and on. That really pissed us off.
Jesse: The fans are crazy but where would we be without them?
Kristin: OK. I get it but that doesn't change the way I feel. I still miss Laguna Beach and so does Lori.
Matt: We understand Kristin. It's just we grew to love you and Lori and to see you guys go- it's upsetting. (pause) It won't be the same without you. (pause) You and Lori don't realize how much we're going to miss you.
Kristin: You guys are making me feel bad.
Matt: Don't feel bad. We're just telling you the facts.
Kristin: I wonder if Greg's telling Lori the same thing.
Jesse: Greg- he's probably telling her how much he loves her.
Kristin: Does he really?
Jesse: Does he really what?
Kristin: Love her.
Jesse: Yeah. He does. I mean he talks about her twenty-four seven. (pause) And Matt talks about you twenty-four seven.
Matt: Shuddup Jesse.
Jesse: What? It's not like I'm lyin'. You do talk about her twenty-four seven.
Matt: You're embarrassing me. Just shut the hell up.
Kristin: Don't be embarrassed. I mean I'm not exactly innocent either. (pause) I talk to Lori about you constantly.
Matt: You're not saying that to make me happy, are you?
Kristin: Ask Lori. She's coming over here right now.
Finally Lori joined them, with Greg close beside her. Matt waited a couple minutes then decided to ask her.
Matt: Lori, can I ask you somethin'?
Lori: Yeah. Of course.
Matt: OK. Well um...this is kind of embarrassing but um does Kristin talk to you about me constantly?
Kristin smiled.
Lori: Don't be embarrassed and yeah she does talk to me about you constantly.
Matt: I can't believe it. I never would have thought....
Lori: Well believe it 'cuz it's true.
Kristin: Yeah it is.
She grinned while Matt watched her in anticipation. He thought she was so beautiful. (He'd tell her, but he knew that she knew that she was beautiful.)
Chris: So Lorr are you going out with Greg?
Lori: No, I'm not.
Matt: You didn't ask her out?
Greg: N- No. Not exactly.
Matt: You should before she disappears on you.
Kristin: (talking to Lori, in a whisper) Why are they talking like we're not here?
Lori: Who knows.
