CHAPTER 1: I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!!! (What a Joke!)
Matt: Do any of you know Lori French?
Chris: No.
Frankie: No.
Jesse: No, I don't.
Greg: Nope.
Guys: Why?
Matt: Oh. No reason. I was just wonderin'.
Chris: Do you like her or something?
Matt: I don't even know who she is. I- I never met her before in my life.
Jesse: Then how do you know her name?
Matt: I um found her wallet.
Frankie: You found her wallet? Where?
Matt: When I was looking at CDs in K- Mart. I found it on a shelf.
Narrator: Just then a girl around 5'2'' with dirty blonde hair with blue eyes and an average, curvy body walked by. She was self- concious and very shy. And her name was Lori French, the girl who lost her wallet. She was a nervous wreck. She glanced around and her eyes landed on five guys, who she immediately recognized. They were the guys from the boy band Dream Street- Chris Trousdale, Greg Raposo, Matt Ballinger, Jesse McCartney and Frankie Galasso. She watched them for a couple minutes then walked by them.
Chris: Dude check it out.
Narrator: He motioned to Lori, who just walked by. His friends looked at her and checked her out. When she felt eyes on her she looked back and found the guys watching her, which made her uncomfortable. Extremely uncomfortable.
Matt: She's cute.
Chris: She has a nice ass, too.
Narrator: The guys laughed, but stopped when they realized that they were being watched. They looked where the girl was standing but she wasn't there. She was gone.
Chris: Where'd she go?
Greg: She went into that magazine store or whatever.
Matt: How do you know that?
Greg: Umm....I saw her go in there.
Chris: Can we go talk to her?
Greg: Yeah. I guess. I mean we don't have anything better to do.
Narrator: Meanwhile in the "magazine store" Lori was flipping through Popstar magazine. When she saw and article on her favorite boy band (Dream Street) she stopped flipping through the pages. She read the article to herself and butterflies filled her stomach- the same thing that always happened when she saw them on TV, heard them on the radio, or read about them in magazines. They had the weirdest effect on her. She hated the way they made her feel, but at the same time she loved it. It was complicated. Then, out of nowhere, she heard footsteps behind her. She put the magazine back and stood up then turned around- coming face to face with the guys who turned her whole world upside down. She suddenly felt extremely nervous and sick.
Chris: Hi.
Narrator: Unable to speak she just stood there, frozen to the spot where she was standing. Even though she was nervous that didn't stop her from looking, or checking out, the five gorgeous guys who were right in front of her. God they're so hot, she thought to herself. Too bad they think I'm a dweeb.
Lori: H- Hi.
Chris: What's up? Buying a magazine?
Lori: I can't.
Chris: Can't?
Matt: Can't what?
Lori: I- I can't buy a magazine.
Greg: You can't buy a magazine? Do you have strict parents or something?
Lori: No.
Greg: So why can't you buy a magazine?
Lori: 'Cuz I l-lost my wallet.
Matt: What does it look like?
Lori: It has a butterfly on it and it's black.
Narrator: He took something out of his pocket and looked at it then he handed it to her.
Matt: Here. I think this belongs to you.
Narrator: Just as she was about to thank him 5 beautiful girls showed up and practically shoved her out of the way.
Girl # 1: Hi guys.
Narrator: The guys looked at each other then looked over at Lori, who was holding her arm. When she felt eyes on her she glanced up and saw the guys looking at her. When they saw the facial expression she had, they knew she was upset.
Girl # 1: Hello?
Narrator: Matt went over to Lori and touched her arm.
Matt: You OK babe?
Narrator: She shook her head and he frowned. Then he said something that shocked her, his friends and the five superficial snobby beautiful girls.
Matt: Don't ever shove my girlfriend again!
Narrator: The give girls laughed.
Girl # 3: She's your girlfriend? Where'd you find her? The dumpster?
Lori: (muttering) Superficial bitch.
Matt: Yeah she is my girlfriend and I found her at----
Lori: Just ignore them baby.
Narrator: She couldn't believe what she had just said. Now she'd have to hit herself later for "flirting" with Matt.
Girl # 2: So where'd you find her?
Matt: Where I found her is none of your business.
Girl # 2: That's probably 'cuz you found her in the dumpster and you're too ashamed.
Narrator: He glanced over at Lori who looked extremely pissed off.
Matt: I didn't find her in the dumpster now shut the hell up.
Girl # 1: Then where'd you find her?
Matt: I found her.....my friends and I were watching the fireworks and I spotted her alone. I thought she looked so beautiful...like an angel. I went over to her and introduced myself and we talked nonstop for what seemed like decades...we've been together ever since.
Girl # 1: (looking at Lori) Is that true?
Lori: Yeah. (pause) It was love at first sight.
Narrator: Matt looked over at her and she looked back at him. He stared into her eyes and saw something he never saw before.
Girl # 1: It was love at first sight, huh?
Matt: Yeah, it was.
Narrator: He continued to stare into her eyes and then she broke the eye contact. He watched her then looked at the girl.
Matt: Do you think you girls could leave us alone now?
Narrator: Without answering his question the girls walked off, gossiping and giggling.
Chris: Good job Matt.
Jesse: Yeah I know. I thought they'd never leave.
Lori: Well, I got to go.
Greg: You can't go. You're Matt's girlfriend.
Lori: Yeah...right. (She rolled her eyes) I'm his pretend girlfriend.
Greg: True....but still....
Lori: You guys have no clue how much that hurts. You really don't.
Chris: What hurts? Your arm?
Lori: No.
Guys: So what hurts?
Lori: Pretending to be Matt's girlfriend when I've----
Narrator: Her voice trailed off.
Greg: When you've what?
Lori: When I've dreamed about being with him...when I care so much about him...when I love him more than anything. It hurts. It really hurts.
Matt: Wow.
Lori: And now that I've completely humiliated myself I'm gonna leave.
Matt: Lorr...stay here.
Lori: Why?
Matt: 'Cuz I want you to.
Lori: Why? So if those girls come back we can pretend to be boyfriend girlfriend so they won't know that we lied? (long pause) Well if they come back tell them that we broke up due to the fact that we rushed into a relationship neither one of us wanted to be in. (pause) I'm outtie.
Narrator: She walked away and he stared after her, wondering where she was going.
Matt: I can't believe this.
Narrator: And with that he walked away, leaving his friends and bandmates confused.
Lori: I can't believe this!!! What a joke!
