Chapter Four: Meeting the Bitchy Brittany
"Hi guys," Brittany said with a smile. Matt and Brittany had just joined the group and Lori stared at her. She was getting so upset, but she knew she had to control her anger although inside a volcano was about to erupt.
"Brittany," The guys said. Matt was holding her hand and looking at her adoringly when he realized that he was being stared at. He looked over at Lori, but she immediately looked away.
"Jess, I'm going to Aeropostale. I'll see you later," Lori said. She backed away and walked off, not knowing where she was going. She was just going in the direction that her feet were taking her. She took a quick glance back, but then turned around and kept walking.
"What was that about?" Matt asked. He looked at Jessica, knowing that she might have a reason.
"She had to go pick out a pair of jeans," Jessica said. She knew that if she told Matt that Lori liked him in front of his girlfriend there'd be trouble so she kept it to herself for now.
"Did I do something?" Brittany asked.
"Of course not," Matt assured her. He kissed her cheek and Jessica said, "I think I'd better go see how Lorr's doing."
"Is she upset?" Matt asked out of curiosity. He looked at Jessica once again, waiting for an answer.
"Don't worry about it Matt. She'll be fine. I hope," Jessica said before she walked off in search of her depressed friend.
"Do you guys know something that I don't?" Matt looked at Chris, then at Greg, and at Jesse. He took a quick glance over at Frankie then exchanged looks with Brittany, who was wondering why he was so concerned with that girls' feelings.
"I think I do, but I'm not saying it out loud, in front of certain people," Greg replied.
"Does she like him?" Brittany inquired. She looked at all the guys then at Matt, who was in shock. He couldn't believe that Brittany would think of something like that.
"No," All the guys, except for Matt, said in unison.
"You guys are lying," Brittany told them.
"How do you know?" Greg interrogated.
"Because you answered kind of quick," Brittany told him. She looked at them once again. "She does like Matt, doesn't she?"
"I don't know. Go ask her," Chris said.
"Why?" Brittany implored.
"Well, you want to know if that girl likes Matt. We don't. YOU go find out," Greg said.
Matt looked at his friends, wondering if they were telling the truth. He looked around and noticed that Lori and Jessica were walking back to the group. Lori was staring at the ground because she had a tear-stained face. She was so embarrassed and she wasn't about to show her tear-stained face in front of the guys. How uncool would that look??
"You OK Lorr?" Chris asked when the two girls reached the group.
Looking at the floor, she said, "Yeah."
"You're lying," Jesse said looking at her.
She looked up at him and said, "I'm not lying."
"Were you crying?" Frankie asked looking at her.
"Oh. No. I just splashed my face with water so I could wake myself up." Lori lied through her teeth and everyone knew it.
Jesse walked over to her and looked at her. "You're lying," He told her.
"I'm not lying Jesse," Lori insisted. "I was half asleep so I wanted to wake myself up."
"Then how come there are tear stains all over your face?"
"She's upset because Matt's going out with me," Brittany replied. Jesse and Lori turned around and faced her.
"You don't know anything about me so shut up," Lori told Brittany.
"Well, I know that you like Matt. You're jealous of me because I'm going out with him," Brittany went on. Lori stared at her and said, "I am not jealous of you. Besides, who said that I liked Matt anyway? I could like somebody totally different."
"Sure. Whatever you say," Brittany said sarcastically.
Brittany looked at her and said, "I know how girls like you act around guys and girls like me and Matt. You act like you're all that when you're nothing but trailer trash."
"Brittany!" Matt shouted at her.
"What?" Brittany asked looking at him.
"That was totally rude," Jesse said glaring at Brittany. He looked over at Lori who had tears cascading down her cheeks.
