CHAPTER 7: Head Banging and Cracking Jokes

"So what was your mission?" Matt asked.

"I dunno. I thought we were going bowling. I was too involved with singing some of my favorite songs and forgot that I was going bowling wit you guys." Lori answered.

Matt, Greg and Lori got in Greg's black Lexus G3 300 and Lori was in complete shock and aww. She couldn't believe she was actually with the guys of her dreams. She would have given anything to be with them, too and now it was actually happening. She buckled up and Matt looked back at her.

"You all set Lorr?" he asked.

Greg looked back at her in the rearview mirror and flashed her a smile. When Lori saw him look at her, her stomach filled up with butterflies. A rush of excitement and nervousness ran down her spine and throughout her whole entire body. Her heart melted.

"Yeah." she said simply.

Greg put his hand on the radio dial and looked back at her. "Are there any good radio stations?"

"Hmm....there's 107.1....97.5 if you like country and um...rock and punk and all that stuff is on 92.1." Lori replied.

"You can pick." Greg told her.

"NO COUNTRY!" Matt cried.

Lori giggled and said, "Some country is good."

"Yeah...right." Matt said dryly.

"Which radio station do you want Lori?" Greg asked.

"107.1." she answered. She took out her wallet and counted her money then she put her wallet back into her purse that she had bought from Aeropostale.

Greg put it on 107.1. but Lori said, "I hate this song. It sucks."

"What song is it?" Matt asked looking back at her.

"It's Dido's 'White Flag' and I really don't like her." Lori said truthfully.

"Do you want me to change it?" Greg tried really hard not to laugh.

"If you want to. It doesn't matter." Lori shrugged.

Matt turned around and then pulled down the visor and looked at her through the mirror. He told her he was trying to fix his hair. She just laughed and muttered, "Yeah right."

"Does 92.1 play good music?" Greg asked.

"Yeah....kind of. I don't listen to the station too often though. If I don't recognize a song or I don't like a song I just change it." she admitted. "I change radio stations until I find a song that I like or recognize."

"Yeah. Sometimes the radio stations do suck." Greg agreed.

"Put it on 92.1 dude." Matt told his friend and ex-bandmate.

Once Greg put it on 92.1 Lori shouted in excitement which made the guys look at her suspiciously, both trying hard not to laugh.

"What? I love this song! It's 'Last Resort' by Papa Roach." she said.

These words came blasting out of the speakers, "Cut my life into pieces This is my last resort Suffocation No breathing Don't give a f**k if I cut my arm bleeding This is my last resort Cut my life into pieces I've reached my last resort Suffocation No breathing Don't give a f**k if I cut my arm bleeding Do you even care if I die bleeding Would it be wrong? Would it be right? If I took my life tonight Chances are that I might Mutilation outta sight And I'm contemplating suicide Cause I'm losing my sight Losing my mind Wish somebody would tell me I'm fine Losing my sight Losing my mind Wish somebody would tell me I'm fine I never realised I was spread too thin To live was too late And I was empty within hungry Feeding on chaos And living in sin Downward spiral where do I begin? It all started when I lost my mother No love for myself And no love for another Searching to find a love up on a higher level Finding nothing but questions and devils Cause I'm losing my sight Losing my mind Wish somebody would tell me in fine Losing my sight Losing my mind Wish somebody would tell me I'm fine Nothing's alright Nothing is fine I'm running and I'm crying I'm crying I'm crying I'm crying I'm crying I can't go on living this way Cut my life into pieces This is my last resort Suffocation No breathing Don't give a f**k if I cut my arm bleeding Would it be wrong? Would it be right? If I took my life tonight Chances are that I might Mutilation outta sight And I'm contemplating suicide Cause I'm losing my sight Losing my mind Wish somebody would tell me I'm fine Losing my sight Losing my mind Wish somebody would tell me I'm fine Nothing's alright Nothing is fine I'm running and I'm crying I can't go on living this way Can't go on Living this way Nothing's alright."

Lori sang along to the words and started head banging. She started dancing around, acting like a moron. At that moment she didn't care though because she just wanted to have fun. She had to cut loose every once in a while just like everyone else in the world did.

"Your girl is crazy dude." Greg said when he caught a glimpse of Lori head banging in the back mirror.

Matt looked back at her and said, "She's just having fun."

He smiled at her and said, "She may be crazy, but it's better than having her shy and everything."

"And what do you mean 'your girl'?" Matt raised his eyebrows at him.

Ignoring Matt, Greg asked, "Lorr, there is a bowling alley around here right?"

"There used to be a bowling alley down town but they got rid of it and put in an Auto Zone. There's one in Dover though." she replied.

"You're gonna have to give me directions." Greg said looking back at her.

"Oooh goody." She gave him a sarcastic grin.

Greg laughed and said, "You'll do fine."

"OK. Um....once you leave my driveway just take a left and then take a left on Dry Hill Road." Lori told him.

"OK." Greg said.

"Good job." Matt gave her a thumbs up sign which made her laugh.

"You're a nerd." Lori said.

She went back to listening to the radio and when she heard a shitty song she said, "Grrreeeeg." in a sing song voice.

"Want me to change it?" he laughed.

"Don't change it! It's the Red Hot Chilli Peppers! It's Californication." Matt cried. "It's a really good song."

Greg laughed at him and said, "Dude you need help."

"Oh. Yeah. I've heard 'Californication' before. It IS a really good song." Lori agreed.

"You like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers?" Matt turned around and looked at her.

"I like Sum 41 too." She laughed.

"Me too." he admitted. "What's your favorite song?"

"Just guess." she said with a grin.

"Fat Lip?" he asked after he pondered it for a while.

"Yeah. Awesome song. I'm just surprised I know all the words because they sing it kinda fast." Lori said.

"Yeah, but you can always look up the lyrics online." Matt reminded her.

"They have the lyrics in the CD jacket or whatever." she said.

"Yeah." was all Matt said. He didn't really know what else to say.

"First born unicorn Hard core soft porn Dream of Californication Dream of Cailfornication," she said in a sing-song voice, singing along to the song.

"You should take voice lessons." Matt suggested.

"Is that your way of telling me that my voice sucks Matt?" She eyed him.

Matt laughed and said, "No of course not. I was just saying if you like singing so much you should consider taking vocal lessons."

"Oh. OK." she laughed.

Then she heard Story Of The Year's "Anthem Of Our Dying Day" which made her sing along to it. "The stars will cry The blackest tears tonight And this is the moment that I live for I can smell the ocean air And here I am Pouring my heart onto these rooftops Just a ghost to the world That's exactly Exactly what I need From up here the city lights burn Like a thousand miles of fire And I'm here to sing this anthem Of our dying day For a second I wish the tide Would swallow every inch of this city As you gasp for air tonight I'd scream this song right in your face If you were here I swear I won't miss a beat Cause I never Never have before From up here the city lights burn Like a thousand miles of fire And I'm here to sing this anthem Of our dying day Of our dying day Of our dying day Of our dying!!! For a second I wish the tide Would swallow every inch of this city And you gasp for air tonight!! From up here the city lights burn Like a thousand miles of fire And I'm here to sing this anthem Of our dying day From up here the city lights burn Like a thousand miles of fire And I'm here to sing this anthem Of our dying day From up here the city lights burn Like a thousand miles of fire And I'm here to sing this anthem Of our dying day Our dying day Of our dying!!!"

Halfway through the singing of her song, Greg said, "You really should take voice lessons if you like singing. I haven't heard you stop singing yet."

"I love music. It's a big part of my life. It helps me relax and let loose." Lori explained.

"Yeah. It's a big part of our lives too. Obviously." Greg said.

"Do you play any instruments?" Matt asked.

"I used to play the piano." Lori said.

"Used to?" they asked.

"I quit playing the piano because I hated practicing." she spilled.

"Sometimes we do, too, but we know that if we keep practicing we'll get better at it." Matt said.

"Now where do I go?" Greg asked once he was stopped at the stop sign at the end of Dry Hill Road.

Lori looked where he was and said, "Just go straight across, but make sure there's no cars coming." She laughed.

"Obviously." Matt laughed at her.

"Don't laugh at me you jerk." she joked.

"I'm not a jerk. I was just kidding around." Matt insisted.

"Quit fighting you two." Greg told them.

"Don't tell me what to do." Matt retorted.

"Somebody should you punk." Lori blurted out.

Matt looked at her in complete shock and said, "You...you're a punk too."

"You...you're a punk too." Lori mocked as she looked at him. She smiled.

"YOU'RE THE PUNK!"

"You guys are both punks now shut up. I need to concentrate on where I'm going." Greg told them, loud enough so they could hear him. "And Lorr, you're supposed to be helping me out."

"When you need someone You just turn around And I, will be there When you're feeling low Baby let me know And I, will be there." she sang. "Come on over here Let me show how things should be I will make it alright Let me make it clear You can put your trust in me Yes I will be there."
