CHAPTER 6: FAT LIP

As soon as they reached Lori's house, which was hidden by a bunch of trees, Greg parked his vehicle and took the keys out. Matt jumped out and practically ran over to Lori.

"You gave Greg the middle finger." he said.

"Oops!" she said sarcastically. "I didn't mean to."

"Nah. It was funny as hell." Matt chuckled.

"Yeah it was." Lori agreed.

"You have a long driveway." Greg said when he walked over to his friend and to his friends' new girl friend.

"I know. I like the privacy. I'm a huge privacy person. I hate when I don't get my privacy and personal space." Lorr said.

"We know what you mean." Greg admitted.

"Yeah. You guys must hate it when you go out to have a good time and you end up being surrounded by a bunch of fans asking for pictures and autographs." she said sympathetically.

"It's cool that they know who we are and that they want our autographs and everything, but yeah....it gets to be a pain sometimes, but we're not gonna exactly say that we hate it." Greg said.

"It's kind of fun to have girls come up to you and talk to you." Matt added. "The girl part is what I like."

"Yeah." Lori said. She looked down at the ground and stared at an ant that was walking around.

"What are you staring at? Are you ok?" Greg and Matt asked when she didn't say anything or move for almost 5 minutes.

"I'm gonna go." she said finally.

"You don't have to go." Matt told her.

"You're still coming bowling with us, aren't you?" Greg asked.

"If you guys want me to. I don't have to go." Lori told them.

"You are so stubborn." Matt shook his head and laughed.

"Stubborn..and a joke." Lori rolled her eyes at him.

"You're not a joke. Who said that you were?" Matt asked looking at her.

"I dunno." She shrugged.

"I just get the feeling that you guys think I'm a joke." she added.

"We don't think you're a joke so don't think that." Greg told her.

"Hmph." She walked off and Matt grabbed her by the arm. She spun around and said, "You can let go of me Matt."

"I don't want you to be mad at us."

"Who said I was mad?" she mocked.

"You look pissed off." Matt said simply. "Are you?" he asked.

"I'm annoyed." she admitted.

"With us?" Greg asked looking at her.

"With myself." she confessed.

Matt and Greg exchanged looks with one another when she broke out of Matt's tight grip and walked over to the front steps, unlocked the door and slammed it shut after she was inside. When Matt heard the door slam he wondered why she had such an attitude all of a sudden. He wanted to figure her out; figure out what she was all about and why she was so depressed and down all the time. It seemed to him that she was extremely upset about something, but he didn't know what.

Once she was done asking her parents if she could go with the guys, she put the keys on the hook and practically ran down the steps and out the front door. The guys were shooting hoops, practically missing every single time until Matt made one in then Greg made one in. When they heard a giggle they stopped what they were doing and saw Lori sitting on the steps, gawking at them.

"What are you laughing at?" Greg asked walking over to her. He set the ball down in the dirt next to her and took the seat beside her.

"Nothing. Get away from me." she said.

"Attitude." Greg joked.

Lori rolled her eyes and said, "I don't have an attitude" then playfully shoved him.

Greg put his arm around her neck and gave her a noogie. Matt laughed as he watched Lori squirm and flip out. Greg started laughing when she gave him the dirtiest look.

"Come on Greg." she whined. "Quit it."

"Stop your whining and bitchin' and I will." Greg teased.

"Asshole." she muttered.

Matt laughed even harder when he heard her then stopped when she shot him an icy, cold glare. He froze on the spot and had the most serious facial expression Lori had ever seen, which made her laugh at him.

"You look so serious." Lori said looking at him. She sat up and elbowed Greg then laughed when she saw the look on his face.

She started singing," Oh, you drive me crazy Oh, you just bring me down Look out your window My sunshine's all around All you have to do is just surrender, just surrender."

NOTE: *It's from Ashlee Simpson's song "Surrender" * *Sing-song voice*

"What song is that from?" Matt asked.

"Surrender by Ashlee Simpson. She's awesome. I love her CD." Lorr said proudly.

"You like Ashlee Simpson?" Greg asked looking over at her.

"Yeah. She's really cool. She has that 'don't care' attitude and in a way I can relate to her." Lori admitted.

She thought for a minute then started singing, "Storming through the party like my name was El Nino When I'm handgun out drinking in the back of an El camino As a kid, I was a skid and no one knew me by name. I trashed my own house party cause no body came."

Matt joined in and sang, "I know I'm not the one you thought you knew back in high school Never going, ever showing up when we had to. Is it attention that we crave don't tell us to behave, I'm sick of always hearing act your age."

Then she sang, "I don't want to waste my time And become a casualty of society. I'll never fall in line Become a victim of your conformity And back down."

Matt sang, "Because you don't Know us at all we laugh when old people fall. But what would you expect with a conscience so small. Heavy metal and mullets it's how we were raised. Maiden and priest were the gods that we praised."

Lori giggled and sang, "Cause we like having fun at other peoples expense and, Cutting people down is just a minor offence then, It's none of your concern, I guess I'll never learn. I'm sick of being told to wait my turn."

Matt laughed, looked at her and sang, "I don't want to waste my time And become a casualty of society. I'll never fall in line Become a victim of your conformity And back down. Don't count on me, to let you know when. Don't count on me, I'll do it again. Don't count on me, it's the point you're missing. Don't count on me, cause I'm not listening."

"You guys are crazy." Greg said as he listened to Lori and Matt go back and forth singing the verses and choruses of Sum 41's "Fat Lip".

Lori ignored his comment and in a sing-song voice, "Well I'm a no goodnick lower middle class brat, Back packed and I don't give a shit about nothing. You be standing on the corner talking all that kufuffin. But you don't make sense from all the gas you be huffing. Then if the egg don't stain you'll be ringing off the hook, You're on the hit list wanted in the telephone book. I like songs with distortion, to drink in proportion. The doctor said my mom should have had an abortion."

Then Matt sang, "I don't want to waste my time And become a casualty of society. I'll never fall in line Become a victim of your conformity And back down. Waste my time with them Casualty of society. Waste my time again, Victim of your conformity And back down."

"You guys are really crazy." Greg commented.

"Here I am, As perfect as i'm ever gonna be You'll see Love me for me Stick around, I'm not the kinda girl you wanna leave You'll see Love me for me." she said in a sing-song voice.

"What song is that from?" Matt asked.

"Love Me For Me by Ashlee Simpson." Lori replied with a smile.

"Are you a huge fan of Ashlee Simpson or something?" Greg joked.

"Yeah. She's awesome. I love her." Lori laughed. "She's really cool."

"She used to love us but ever since the DS break up she forgot all about us." Matt said frowning.

"No I haven't. I haven't forgotten about you guys. I couldn't if I tried." Lori admitted. She smlied and sang, "I'm hooked on you, no matter what I do (What I do) I got it bad but I like it, like it I'm hooked on you, on everything you do (you do) I wanna give you up, but baby I'm hooked on you."

"She hasn't forgotten about YOU Matt." Greg teased.

"Cause I've been keeping my pockets Warm for too long I wanna hold someones hand To whom i belong To think about when I hear a love song Hang up the phone and say i love you Stay up all night thinking about you I wanna hold someone in my arms Hold them so tight, forever Just standing there would be just like heaven Cause we're together Then I'd sing him a song staring Right into his eyes A song just for him A song that I wrote for him," she sang with a smile. "I haven't forgotten about you either Greg." She laughed.

"You changed the words." Greg laughed.

"I don't wanna meet a girl. I wanna meet a GUY Greg." She retorted. "I'm straight."

Greg laughed harder and said, "I didn't think that you weren't straight."

"Punk." she muttered under her breath. "Cuz I'm looking for love, but it's so hard to find My heart open, so come and step inside Looking for love but I must be blind So boy, Start looking for me Look for me." she sang. Then she went on and sang, "You and me, we can make it be If we just give it some time You know me so I know you can see that The love is in my eyes."

"You love singing don't you?" Greg asked looking at her.

"Yeah but my voice sucks." Lori complained.

"Have you thought about taking vocal lessons?" Matt asked.

"We can talk on the way to the bowling alley." Greg put in.

"I was so wrapped up in my singing I totally forgot what my mission was." She burst out laughing.
