CHAPTER 16: "Too Good"
"Is the pizza here yet?" Nick, Lori's brother, asked walking into the kitchen.
Nick noticed some strange guy sitting in his seat and then looked at his dad. "Who's that dad?" he asked. Nick thought for a minute and said, "He's from Dream Street."
"This is Greg Raposo and yes, he's from Dream Street. They broke up though because of the lawsuit." Jackie said closing the newspaper she had been indulged in for the past 30 minutes. She put the paper back in order and set it down on the table. "And no, the pizza isn't here yet."
"Lori's going to flip out when she finds out he's here." Nick said.
"She knows I'm here." Greg spoke up.
"She does?" Nick asked surprised.
"Yeah. She invited us over." Greg answered looking at him.
"Oh." was all Nick said before turning to his dad. "Do you wanna go shoot some hoops dad?"
"He just got home. Ask Greg." Jackie said.
"I'll shoot hoops with ya." Greg offered without any hesitation.
"You're gonna get beat." Nick joked as they walked outside.
"What's your name?" Greg asked as he stood in the driveway waiting for Nick to pass him the ball. When he caught the pass from him he shot it and it bounced off the backboard and in. "Sweet!" Greg shouted in excitement.
Jokingly Nick said, "Lucky shot."
*WITH LORI AND MATT*
Lori and Matt were listening to Sum 41's Fat Lip on 92.1 (FNX) when Lori changed it when it was over. She put it on 107.1 (WERZ) and she was surprised when NSYNC's "This I Promise You" came on. She looked at Matt and he took her by the hand. He pulled her up off the bed and put his arms around her, holding her close to him. She draped her arms around his neck and stared at him. As they slow danced Matt got closer and sang the words to her softly in her ear.
As they parted Matt gently kissed her on the lips and she blushed and shied away. His eyes were glued to her and then she looked at him. They listened to the silence that had suddenly overtaken the room and then the room filled with the sound of Dido's voice singing her song, "White Flag".
"I really hate that fuckin' song." Lori thought to herself.
Matt slowly backed away from her and went over to the stereo. He knelt down and looked at her huge collection of CDs (she had over 100) and when he saw how many Dream Street CDs she had he smiled. Then he looked up at the paneling in her room. Everywhere he looked he saw Dream Street posters, posters of Play, Lindsay Lohan, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and even Hilary Duff. The Dream Street posters outdid all the other posters though. He smiled to himself once again and went back to looking at her CDs.
"Hmm...." he said when he grabbed NSYNC's 2nd CD, No Strings Attached. He read over the list of songs and then put it back. We need a song , he thought. Then he reached for Stevie Brock's CD. Girl You Know It's True stuck out in his mind. He read the lyrics over and over again and said, "Perfect." Then he realized he had a better song. "Too Good" by his band *The Juice* stuck out in his mind.
The words to the song played in his mind. Overwhelmed with satisfaction
I drown in your eyes
backs of my fingers
against the soft of your cheek
I touch your lips
onto mine
and I do not know what to do
and the world means nothing at all
it don't get better than this
we smoke our minds to smiles and
realize how good this feels
I never wanna leave-never had something that felt so real
I hear a song and somehow its about you
it penetrates my soul...
I don't know what to do
it's too good it's too damn good
psychology couldn't explain
what I'm feelin, I'm feelin right now
no more answering questions
like why? or how?
my world slips to a dreamy nothing
you come dancing in my head
I awake and see your face
smiles overflow from my lips
we smoke our minds to smiles and
realize how good this feels
I never wanna leave-never had something that felt so real
I hear a song and somehow its about you
it penetrates my soul...
I don't know what to do
it's too good it's too damn good
psychology couldn't explain
what I'm feelin, I'm feelin right now
no more answering questions
like why? or how?
my world slips to a dreamy nothing
you come dancing in my head
I awake and see your face
smiles overflow from my lips
its your smile, its your style, its the way that you walk
its the way your lips move every time that you talk
its your eyes it's your thighs its the breath of your hair
its the love that drowns my eyes every time that I stare
its the way that we melt
the lucky hand we were dealt
its too good its too damn good.
Lori walked up behind him and put her arms around his neck, loosely, and said, "The pizza's here."
He reached up and touched her hands and she accidentally fell on top of him. She giggled and said, "Sorry."
Matt stared at her for a while then gently kissed her. Butterflies filled her tummy and she knew what she had to do. She kissed him back and knew that she was the suckiest kisser in the whole entire world because she had never been kissed before.
"Pizza's here." Jackie said walking into the room. As soon as she saw Lori and Matt kissing she turned around and left in complete shock. "I guess they already moved onto dessert." she joked.
Lori broke away from him and got off of him very carefully. She stood up and Matt held out his hand and she took it. She pulled him up and said, "My mom's probably flipping out."
Matt laughed and said, "Oh well."
"You are such a punk." she smiled at him.
"You are too. And you know you love me." Matt teased her.
"I do love you." she said looking at him. "With all my heart." she added.
"Come to New York with me." he said.
She looked at him and didn't say anything for almost 5 minutes.
