Thrianta
Origin: The Netherlands (Holland)
Weight: 4-6 pounds
Color: Orange-red
Bred for: Show and Pet
The Thrianta was originally created in Holland in the 1930s. A Thrianta-like rabbit was also created in Germany in the 1925.
The Thrianta was developed from a black Tan, a black Havana, and a self-colored Tortoise English Spot. In WWII, the Thrianta population was ravaged, and popularity plummetted (of course.)
Some of the first Thrianta's imported to America were in the late 80's and onward throughout the 90's. On October 26, 2005 the Thrianta was the first breed for showing. The breed was then unanimously approved for showing, being the most recent approved rabbit since the 1980s, and the 46th rabbit approved by the ARBA.
Thrianta's, named after the region of Holland they come from, have a very orangey color coat, and the color should be solid from tip of the hairs down to the skin. The underside of a showable rabbit may be a lighter shade than the rest of the body, as well as the tail and rings around the eyes. They also have dark toenails. Thrianta's have large, erect, furry ears, full heads, and small necks. They have small legs, too. Thier fur is thick (about an inch) and soft. They have compact, well-rounded bodies.
