In the 1930s, Walter Huey found the first Satins in a Havana litter. He displayed these rabbits with the "satin factor" amongst other rabbits, and that is how the Satin got its name. The Satin gets its luxurious sheen, which is not present in any other rabbit, from a mutation in the fur, which causes the hairs to become thinner than normal.
Satins love attention, and do not really care about being picked up -as opposed to many other rabbits, who, if you ever picked them up, would freak out and try to escape. The Satin is not very aggressive, which is great if you desire to own multiple rabbits.
