Talismans

These are some examples of talismans. Although most are made of natural materials, they are still man made.
*1. This is a talisman made up of a walnut incased in
rose quarts put on by boiled pine sap. Inside the
walnut is herbs and oils and a few other things that
brings love and harmony into my life. The beads
connected to the talisman is made of fresh rose
petals, boiled and dried into beads.

*2. A small pewter buffalo which is the symbol of
spirituality, and freedom.

*3. A blood stone with the totem of a fox carved into it.

*4. A pewter pentagram.

*5. A ruin made of deer antler.

A talisman is a "man-made" object charged by magick to aid you in whatever you have created it to represent. It is charged by you, deity, and the elements and consecrated in a circle of power. This is to announce the new talisman as a tool for your magick to the Gods and the four watch towers so they will see it as such. Talismans have been used for centuries for one thing or another and especially for averting evil. Lets look at exactly what talismans are. A talisman is man made, of any shape or size and are preferably out of natural materials. These can be filled with herbs, oils, roots, fingernail clippings, hair and even contain metal associated with the planet in which you are working in. For instance maybe you would like to bring a little love into your life. Venus represents love and the metal represented by Venus is copper. Therefore you may want to add a copper penny with your birth date on it to whatever talisman you are making. Once a talisman is made and consecrated, wear it on you at all times! During each "new moon" cleanse it in sea salt and water and during each "full moon", charge it by the moon while concentrating on the original purpose of the which the talisman was created. You may also want to anoint the talisman with an oil designed for the same purpose at this time. Here are a few ideas for talismans I have used over the years

You will need:
2 cups of finely chopped rose petals,
rose water, red food coloring, tooth picks, a piece of cardboard and a cast iron pot or skillet.

In a cast iron pot or skillet, place the chopped rose petals, three drops of red food coloring and just enough rose water to just dampen the petals with. You don't want to "soak" the petals in the rose water as it has to simmer dry in the end. Add only enough rose water from time to time to keep it from scorching.. If this happens the whole batch is no longer any good. Place the pot and the ingredients over a low heat and stir until it becomes like pulp. When the pulp is cool enough to handle, roll it into small bead-like balls. Place the rose beads on a toothpick being careful to space each bead to allow for drying. Poke the tooth pick into a piece of cardboard and allow to dry for up to a month. Once the beads has dried it will become very hard. Remove them from the toothpick and use any way you choose. The combination of the rose petals and the rose water will give off a rose sent when wore next to the skin. Rose beads are used for love, peace and harmony.
PEONY BEADS

Although as beautiful as the flower is, it is the root of the plant that you will want to make your beads from. Gather together a small piece of peony root in the fall when all the life has gone to the root. Cut small snips from the root, peal the outer layer off and then carve in to a bead any shape of your choice and then dry as the rose beads above. When dried, string them on a string and wear them around your neck for protection.
SEASHELL TALISMAN

One of my favorites is a simple talisman to make. You take a small seashell and drill a tiny hole at its opening. Fasten a string to the hole or use a jump ring. Inside the shell can be placed oils, herbs or whatever you choose to use. Then seal the end of the shell with wax from a candle in the color representing what the talisman is being made for, such as pink for love, blue for health and so on. Magickal symbols can be placed on the outside of the shell by using paint or scratching it on. Then place it on a string, chain or like I do, on a key chain. Blessed Be!
