Song of Comfort

By Nancy Tang

One of the more unconventional poems out there - in case you don't notice, it was written to a melody from the musical Les Miserables. It was again written for a friend of mine. If Boublil or Schonberg ever read this: Please don't sue me because I loved your show!

My friend, you are in pain.
My friend, now ease your burden.
You feel that no-one's there,
But I am here for you.

Come with me, and let your heart be lightened.
Don't you see, the sky has quickly brightened?
In the darkness, it's hard to feel the morning,
But deep inside you know that night will give way to the dawning.

You may fear that no-one understands you,
But I'm here, and I won't reprimand you.
Come to me, and let my arms hold you tight,
And let your tears flow free until your spirit's shining bright!

You are not the only one in pain.
And you seem to have lost hope through the rain.
Take your heart and set it way up high -
Soon we'll soar, together to the sky.

I know you, your heart is warm and truthful.
I can hear your cry for understanding.
Inside you, There's beauty without measure
And I can see what you can be if you will let it shine!
