I wrote this poem for a friend of mine who needed encouragement. It was inspired by the famous Langston Hughes poem "Hold Fast To Dreams". Truer words were never said (or written).
Dreams,
Rainbow-coloured swirls
In the ocean of your mind,
Are magical spells
That take you to faraway places.
Wishes,
Hidden deep in the heart,
Buried like treasure in a cave,
Are too often
Imagined to be worthless.
Hope,
When darkness binds you,
Is that resilient fire
Which refuses to die
And fills the night with brightness.
Dreams,
They may seem so distant,
Too beautiful to be real,
But if they leave
Your world is cold
And without meaning.
When dreams live,
Then you are alive
And the world is beautiful.
