The central character of Yu Yu hakusho was a fourteen year old delinquent. But he wasn't your ordinary 'i'm gonna take charge' kind of hero. More often than not, dark haired, brown-eyed Yusuke was hard headed, dubbed as a bully in his school and spells trouble for his professors. But despite all these, he was still considered a good person in general. This attitude was put to test when he saved the life of a young boy in exchange of his. Consequently, he was given a second chance in life given that he will work as a Reikai detective and protect the human world from any bad elements. Trained by ligh wave master, Genkai, he went from one mission to another.

Constantly drawing inpspirations from friends and loved ones ( most especially from his girlfriend, keiko ), he was able to go through all battles. As the story progresses, he retains his initial attitude, though improvement in his maturity ( aside from his spiritual power ) and self-desposition was very evident. In his battle with a class-S human and former spirit detective, Sensui, he was killed for the second time but was revived into a stronger Yusuke. With renewed power, he challenged Sensui once more. During this battle, a powerful youkai took control of his mind and body and release a strong rei-gan towards the opponent, killing him in the process. Yusuke was bothered by this. It was at that time when he was summoned by a dying youkai that he learned the whole truth. It turned out, that he was part demon, thus possessing a strong ki inherited from one of the most powerful demons in the other world, Raizen. After Raizen's death, he organized a Makai tournament, held every three years, to determine who will rule Makai. He fought hard but lost to Yomi who was eventually beaten by his father's friend, Enki. In the end he went back to Ningenkai and married Keiko. |
