Large, bulky and oftentimes shallow-headed Kuwabara poses as the clown among the four Reikai detectives. Whether he was pulling off the most ridiculous facial expressions, committing stupid mistakes, showing off his supposed 'unbeatable strength' and even when he threw sharp curses in response to Hiei's assault, Kuwabara has always been successful, at least, in being the best comic character in the series. Kuwabara could well be considered the weakest among the Reikai Tantei, but traits such as loyalty and determination make up for his debilities. Being Yusuke's classmate, he could be considered the main character's 'sidekick'. It was due to his constant rivalry and bully fights with him that Yusuke became more than just a worthy opponent. They became the best of friends. He was able to participate in Yusuke's ressurection in the early episodes and eventually joined him in his job as a spirit detective. Kuwabara also joined the tournament organized by Genkai. That was the first time he used his rei-ken. In the Ankoku Bujutsukai, not once that he was humiliated after losing so badly. But his anger and determination fueled his victory in battles against the elder toguro and Dr. Ichigaki. In their mission on Sensui and the Makai-Ningenkai tunnel, he was kidnapped by the former spirit detective due to his dimensional sword which has the abiltiy to destroy the barrier. However, he hadn't fully gained control of this power until after Yusuke died in his first battle with Sensui. At the last chapter of the series, he wasn't included in the Makai tournament because he willed himself to study hard in order to get to the school of his choice. |
