Comments: I just want to know that I love the style you chose for your web page. It can't be easy to know that a complete stranger like me is reading your intimate thoughts. Of course, I can't help but notice that you keep "cheating". One thing that I have come to grips with myself is that there are so many denial strategies, and just when I think I might know them all, I find there is another I have to face. I was just wondering if perhaps the one you might be battling the most might be "I can always try quitting again." I am wishing you all the success with your new smoke-free life.

Comments: I have just read some of your journal. I found it interesting. My boyfriend has just quit smoking (again). Do you think that I should stop smoking in a bid to help him??? He has been smoking for 20 years and I have been smoking for 10. I say to him t at I will quit 3 months before we try and have a baby (which is only a month away, oh pooh). What would you do? As it's only a month, I suppose I could quit. I ask lots of people this question and all I get in reply is "Oh, I don't know. Do what you w nt". Very helpful.
Comments: i tried to quit 2 wks ago and i was down to 3 smokes a day and you know i really didn't have a bad craving but something happened and i got stressed and now its back to normal HELP!!!
Comments: i started smoking when i was 12 im now 15, i tried quitting 2 days ago and a few hours after i had one then two then 3 ect. im now going to attempt to quit, but i havent got the will power i dont actually want to quit, i just got better things to spend th money on and i cant afford it.
Comments: I tried over and over to give up cigarettes. One time I quit for 3 months. I did a thorough self- assessment of why I started, what benefits I had gained from smoking and what sacrifices I had made and continued to make to be a smoker. I talked it over thoroughly with an understanding friend. I prayed for guidance and developed the willingness to follow that guidance. I kept doing this until one day, I ran out of cigarettes in the middle of the day and have not smoked another one since about 11:00 am, January 23, 1982. I salute you for maintaining this web site and sharing your experience that others might benefit.
Comments: Please do not give, sale, trade or in any other way use my email address except for one on one communication
Comments: dont be fooled by people telling you its harder to drop smoking then to quit heroin..sure its tough but if I can do it ANYONE can do it!!!
Comments: I'm only 16 years old, and i've been smoking for about 1 - 2 years. I wish i never started, I think living out in the sticks being bored is what keeps me smoking. I am however going to quit, I added up how much I've spent on cigretts [1 pack a day, if i'm at a party, up too 2 packs] it just is not worth it. Everytime i try to quit i say 'hey what the hell, I'm 16, have a truck, good job, dont do drugs, why quit, its a minor thing'... I'm wrong, I got a friend of mine to help me [also a smoker] quit, were b th cutting down. We've got a plan and were gunna quit!

Comments: I'm twenty-five years old, been smoking since seventeen. I quit for four months, then got stressed out because of work and turned to the best stress reliever I know- cigarettes. I used to smoke Marlboro Reds, so I told myself if I only smoked lights, I asn't really hurting myself. Pretty pathetic, huh? I've realized I don't like my life, cigarettes included. So I found a less stressful job, I've stopped hanging around with my smoker friends, and I'm changing almost every aspect of my life. I guess it's time to decide who I am, and I don't want cigarettes to define me. Keep up the good work!
Comments: Hi, I think you have to put your mind on something other than cigs so I join a weight loss program because I didn't want to gain a bunch of weight. I loss 40lbs and quit smoking the same time. I also had the help of some patches. I also did things like ne dle work, gardening, anything to keep your hands and mind busy!! I would read that diet plan and figure my meal plans for a week ahead, I must say I have gained the weight back BUT! I'm not smoking and now I am working on my fat...Hope this helps someone ut there. I have a friend that has two lung dieases and I can't seem to help her quit, she is on oxygen everyday and can't even go shopping 1hr. It is really a terrible thing that she is so hook she may DIE!! Please if you haven't started DON'T!!Thanks fo listening...Nita

Comments: Hi, dear friend, I'm a 33 male from Italy. I began smoking at 27 because of a friend of mine (female), she was trying to quit and I was trying to help her... the result was the exact contrary. I liked her cigarettes a lot, but the true reason of my smokin was to remember her, her flavour, and to feel her near and near. My body has requested CIGS for maybe 3 years, I have been living far from her due to work, this girl has gone away from my mind, slowly. And slowly my body has refused some of the cigarettes, and then all. I understand smoking is so sweet, but surely smok ng has a great impact in the memories of something happened in the life. Maybe understanding WHO and WHERE helps a lot. For me has been so natural...
Comments: to quit the butt is not a easy problem, i tried over and over for some time, imade up my mind thst i wanted to stop smoking, one day at a time, iquit cold turkey ,my beiif, it is the only way , there are a lot of thing,s on the msrket to help, idiscarded t em all and went cold turkey, ican honestly say if you have the will power to quit it can be done, iam now smoke free for 12 years, i say give it a good try because you can do it, iam proof of it, so get with it and make up your mind to quit ,good luck , John Penney
Comments: never start so you don't have to quit.
Comments: I smoked for 6 years starting in H. School. I wanted to and tried to quit many times before actually doing so. I think I finally suceeded for one reason only, I realy truely did not want to smoke any longer. At that moment I decided not to smoke for ev ry reason. From not having my clothes reck of cigerette smoke to the clearing of my lungs. I hated waking up every morning coughing up flem, and having a sore throat. I think what every smoker needs to do is what I did, And that is to truely decide( for every definition of the word ) not to smoke any longer. If you suceed your life most definently will be more fulfilling. The best thing I ever did for my self was to stop smoking. People can come up with many excuses why they can't stop and how it is h rder for them, but I have seen many of my realatives stop from my 75 year old grandmother to my 45 year old mother. It is never too late to stop.
Comments: I think your page is great. I did quit once for a month. It was the greatest feeling to be off them. Of course it didn't last. My husband quit 3 days ago. Finding it hard but he's doing it.

Comments: I am proud that you stopped smoking!!! Smoking is really bad for you. I also hearde that each puff takes off seven seconds of your life. If you add up all those puffs you took thats a lot of life you have lost!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can also get heart disease stroke atherosclerosis peripheral vascular disease cancer of the: lung, oral cavity, throat(esophagus), pancreas, kidney, urinary bladder, and the cervix. Thats why you should not smoke.

Comments: It is so strange that the thing you want to do most when you are smoking is quit, and the thing you want to do most when you are quitting is smoke. It's hard to keep the reality of the other situation in mind while you're doing either.
Comments: good luck
Comments: I have chosen not to smoke for 1 Month 1 Week 4 Days 20 Hours 15 Minutes 35 Seconds. Cigarettes not smoked: 771. Money saved: $82.90.
Comments: I quit a couple of years ago for about 8 months and went back - my EXCUSE - stress. I had my last cigarette just about 26 hours ago. This morning I had to dig my car out from the snow to get to work - it was very stressful considering I just moved to NY from CA and have never in my life had to do this. I went inside when I ran into problems actually driving the car out - took a break (deep breathing and relaxing) and within 5 minutes I was ready to try the car again - I DIDN'T need a cigarette to help m calm down. I will take each obstacle and each day as they come and hopefully I can be a BUTT KICKER!! Stacie

Comments: Smoked for 10 years, quit for 6 days!!
Comments: Good luck with trying to quit. Your site has been very helpful to me as I am trying to quit also. Thanks and best wishes!
Comments: kathleen. big shout out to you from adams morgan. i quit for three years and then was so deprived of everything in the peace corps, i started again when i got back. your webpage helps a lot but i don't agree that i am powerless over nicotine. like you say, i can overcome the craving. choose to do something else. i'm on the nicotine patch, that helps. it makes me understand i am addicted to a substance when i slap it on my back, leg or arm. helpful tip: i find it cheapest to always buy the 21 mg patch and cut it up based on the danger of my current situation. running helps me enormously and becoming more body aware via stretching, bathing or meditating. i don't want to hurt my body anymore. i want to overpower addiction. i want to make strong choices and be aware of my actions. i want to live. thanks for the inspiration. hang in there
Comments: determined to quit for good this time - quit for about 11 months a few years back - thought I could have "just one" for old times sake - wrong!!!

Comments: I love your website, and reading your journals is a great help. I decided today (january 1 2000) would be my day to quit, and I have had 2 cigarettes already (1mg of tar each, but I've still cheated), so I'll try again tomorrow, and I'll keep trying. Th nks so much for this page...I'll keep coming back. Good luck!!!!!!
Comments: Sorry made a mistake on my other one.
Comments: I'll never smoke.
Comments: So this helps, eh? Still giving it a shot myself. From the ridiculous to the stupid, I'm trying all sorts of ways to quit. Dont get frustrated. If it's been tried, I'll be trying it too and documenting it online at http://www.mindspring.com/~rd2ruin/smok /nosmoke.html ... Come see how ridiculous and stupid it can look when you watch someone else quit.
Comments: Anyone can do it. It is a tough road but it can be done. I dig your site name good job.

Comments: God bless you and all the luck in the world. I must have quit a hundred times only to start on average 2 weeks later. I will keep trying but it's harder when you've been smoking 27 years. I'm praying for you...

Comments: I also did an online journal when I quit and it was one of the most helpful things I did to help myself quit. I had smoked for 30 years and never really thought I could give "my best buddy" up, but I did it!!! Good luck. You CAN do it!!!!!!! ![]()
Comments: I saw your post at the Q about the pack of Camels staring at you and had to check out your site, Nice job! I am really pleased to see someone your age quitting now before doing as much damage as a lot of us "older" folks have. Congratulations! Keep it up.
Comments: This site is excellent. I found it from your profile page on the Q and I think it is just great. I am 23 and I feel a bit isolated because not many people our age seem to want to quit smoking, I am proud of my achievements and I know you can do it too. P.S. the links are really helpful!
Comments: hi.. I was just surfing around reading other people's journals while at the same time, trying to promote mine. (: Good luck in your quest!
