AIRFORCE DIARIES
by Marquita R. Barr
FINAL CHAPTER?---MAYBE NOT!!!
Although my assignment as the Director of the Bolling Air
Force Base Tax Office ended May 26, 2002, my
tour of duty with the United States Air Force continues.
I have been asked to stay through the end of the
next 2003 Tax Season. Military personnel positions that
revolve around customer service are being filled
by civilians as a part of the Air Force readiness program
during these terrorist times.
So---here I’ll stay---if there are no more dramatic amendments
to my work orders. The worse case scenario, payroll errors,
were brought to my attention recently. Although the fault lies
with the personnel department for hiring me at a higher pay
grade than the rules allow, I will still have to bear the weight
of this faux pas, a wage decrease. Brr-r-r!!!! I’m so mad I
could spit. However, I shall decide my fate, in this situation,
while remaining dedicated to the USAF’s mission. (..until I
find a better job)
UNTIL THEN….I’m spending my days in the “capitol city”
exploring those sights that were previously closed due to the
threat of terrorist attacks…the Lincoln Memorial, Embassy
Row (an area that houses the establishments of each country’s
embassy, and their personnel.), the Washington monument
area where the 963 march on Washington occurred, and
many other national office areas. The state of Maryland also
has many historical landmarks---in Annapolis, Baltimore, etc.
Yes----I shall be a sightseeing fool, but the
AIRFORCE DIARIES will end here
