This is the Avenue of the Sphinxes leading to the entrance of Luxor Temple.  These monuments used to run all the way from Luxor Temple to Karnak Temple, which is several miles away on the other side of town. However, over time, as Egypt modernized, many of these were destroyed so that businesses and houses could be built. The Avenue of the Sphinxes is now only about one-eigth of a mile long.
