| Sitting here in shackles and chains Thinking I’m near life’s end My mind drifts back to days gone past And the way things were back then. Once again, I’m in my childhood Loving life, happy and free– Living life to its fullest Reckless and wild as can be. I loved to watch the sun come up For it was the beginning of another day– A day of joy, laughter and excitement, Cause, for me, that was my way. The friends I had were many. Dreary days I had were few. I lived each day on razor edge With my luck to pull me through. But now I sit here looking back Wondering what I did so wrong. I’ve relived my lifetime day by day In the short time I’ve been gone. And the only things of value That have ever crossed my life Is my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, My lovely daughters and my wife. He leads me and He guides me Through my life day by day. I know He gave his life for me And that’s a debt I can’t repay. So I will live my life for Him And praise Him every day Until I look upon His face and thank Him in person some fine day. |
