Emergencies and Illness

If your child becomes ill or has a fever while in my care, you will be notified immediately.  Your child will be isolated from the other children.  You will be expected to pick your child up within the hour.  Please DO NOT bring your child if he/she has a fever or has had a fever in the past 24 hours, is vomiting or has diarrhea.  Your child must be fever free without fever reducing medications for at least 24 hours before returning to my care.  Violations of this policy will constitute grounds for termination.  Clear runny noses and sniffles are alright.  If your child has a contagious illness or disease I must be made aware of it and a doctors release must be presented before your child may return to my care.

If your child has a fever due to teething I must be provided with a doctor's statement stating that your child is teething and does not have any communicable illness.

You may be called to pick up your child if he/she is excessively fussy but presents no other symptoms of illness.  I will only require that you pick your child up for this reason if he/she is so excessively fussy that it distracts me from caring for the other children.

For the health of all of the children in my care, as well as my own, please follow these rules closely.  It is the responsibility of each of us to ensure that communicable illnesses are not spread among the group.

If your child is not brought to my home for any number of days due to illness, payment will be as usual.

Please list on your child's enrollment form the phone numbers where parents and other adults can be reached in case of emergency.  It is very important that you notify me of any changes to your information so that I am able to contact you in an emergency.  This includes changes in schedule, phone numbers, and other important information.  If I am not able to contact you or another adult listed on your enrollment form I will call your child’s doctor.  Please keep our child’s health card and immunization records up to date and notify me of any changes to your doctor.  If there is an emergency which requires me to leave and accompany a child for emergency care, an adult substitute will be called to stay with the other children.  If there is a life threatening emergency I will always call 911 and request an ambulance.

Illness In My Family

Although I will make every attempt to be available each day, there will be occasions when other family members or I will be ill and I am unable to provide service.  I will contact you as soon as possible if this occurs.

Medication

If your child is on medication you must provide it in the original container with the child’s name and dosage clearly labeled.  I must also have written, dated permission giving the dosage and times to be administered.  I cannot dispense medication without required signed permission.  If the medication is to be given only once or twice a day, please give it to your child at home, before or after child care, if possible.

Immunizations

Please keep me up to date on your child’s immunizations.  I am required by law to keep a record of them.  Each time you take your child to the doctor for an immunization remember to ask for a copy for child care.

Please get your child’s immunizations on Friday so that you can stay with them if they have a reaction.
