Pre-K Curriculum

Our program offers a daily Pre-K curriculum in a relaxed learning environment.  Parents are given a calendar of weekly or monthly themes so that they are able to talk to their children about our lessons.  There are times when we will sit down and do formal lessons,  however. most of our learning is done through play.  We will usually turn our daily lesson into a fun game or activity.  I have found that the children are able to stay focused and learn more in a relaxed and playful learning environment.  Our daily lessons will include a reading time, as well as learning our alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, days of the week, math, science, etc.

In addition to our other activities, we will read several books throughout the day.  We may use puppets and flannel boards for story time.  I will encourage the children to “read” the story back to me or to create a story of their own.  This will help with their language skills and their creativity.

We will also have a daily art or creativity time.  We will use several mediums such as crayons, markers, tempera paint, chalk, play-doh, glue, scissors and finger paints to help develop the children's creativity.

Our
daily routine also includes an outside play time when weather permits.  We will also use this time to learn about the environment (seasons, weather, etc) and do various science experiments.

Television time will be very limited during the day.  The children may watch “Noggin” in the morning when they arrive.  This often helps distract them from mom or dad’s departure.  They are also allowed a short TV time after nap until the rest of the children wake up.

Fridays are movie days.  The children are allowed to bring a movie from home to share with their friends.
