AUTOBIOGRAPHY

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, My names is Rebecca Parker; I am an enrolled member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation in Kansas. My parents are Frank and Nora Parker. I was born and raised in Horton Kansas. During my years at Sherman Indian High school I have had the honor of striving to excellence.

My freshman year I was the only 9th grade student to letter in varsity basketball. I was given the privilege of being named the Rookie of the year and was selected into the All arrowhead 1st team. These honors lead me to be nominated as a Sports Ambassador for the United States of America; I was given the chance to play basketball overseas in Australia and New Zealand. `Not only did I succeed on the court but off it as well. My grades reflect my desire to excel academically. Since my freshman year I have received a 4.0 Gpa. In the summer of my freshman year also attended the University of California, Riverside as a student to earn college credit. While doing all of this and striving to surpass the norm. I was also representing my tribe as the reigning Miss Kickapoo Nation. During this time I spoke to many influential leaders such as motivational speaker Billie Mills and National Congress of American Indians chairwomen Sue Masten and Kansas governor Bill Graves about the issues concerning our Native American youth. The results of my efforts were seen in a resolution established by my tribe for a boys and girl club being built for our community. I learned alot about politics through my involvement in this campaign and enjoyed every minute of it.

My sophomore year was a challenging one. I attended a school in Kansas. I did not play sports, but concentrated on my academics, and was a Whos Who Scholar. During the summer I attended Haskell Indian Nations University for Upward Bound. In the summer of 2001, I traveled to Canada to run for the title of Miss National Potwatomi Ambassador Princess. I am now the reigning Miss National Potwatomi Ambassador Princess.

During this my junior year , I am the President of the Lettermens Club, Secretary for yearbook and Recreation council, volunteer for the Junior class, and am an active member of the Pow-wow club. I also play varsity volleyball, basketball, track and softball. This year in honor of my academic achievement and leadership ability, I have been selected to be a student ambassador for the United States of America. Although. I will not be attending, due to summer school at Harvard University; I am honored to receive the honor of being a student ambassador.

After high school, would like to continue my sports career at the college level. I also want to pursue a Political Science Doctorate with the emphasis on Tribal Government and a minor in Internal Affairs, and become Chairwomen of National Congress of American Indians.
