Extracurricular Activities

Quidditch

The team. Each team ought to have at least a seeker, a keeper, a chaser, a beater. The team has to elect or agree upon a Team Captain. All final decisions about Quidditch answers are to be made by the Captain. If there are not enough players, combined house teams (e.g. Hufflepuff-Ravenclaw team) are possible. All teams must report to Headmistress in the first week of term at the latest, stating who is playing which position and who is Captain. Quidditch matches usually start the second week of term.

The match. Quidditch matches take place both on week days and week ends. The match is announced at least three days before it officially starts. Team members who cannot participate on the day of the match can request that they be sent two questions in advance. They can send them to their Captain, who will submit them with the other team members' answers. This rule is intended for time zone or work schedule problems and should not be used unless it is absolutely necessary. When the match begins, questions are sent out to the teams. All questions refer to the 7 books, not the movies, unless otherwise stated. There will be some movie questions, but they will be marked as such.

Every student can (and is welcome to) submit Quidditch questions. Of course your questions will only be used in matches not involving the team of your house. If you submit questions, don't forget to include the correct answer and where you found them (book, chapter number). All team members can work on the answers, but in the end only the Captain can submit answers to the referee. #

Attention: There are two types of questions: Quaffle Question. Most questions in a Quidditch match are quaffle questions. Each correctly answered Quaffle Question gains a team 10 points. Bludger Question. A Bludger Question is a particularly tricky question which is likely to knock you off your broomstick. Look out for a Bludger - if you get that one wrong, you lose 50 points to the opposing team. The team with the most points wins. The winning team receives a bonus of 100 points. Quidditch Points are transformed into House Cup Points as well. If there is a tie, the first team to catch the Snitch (i.e. the first team to submit their answers) wins. These rules were established by the International Association of Quidditch.

Tetrawizard Tournament

The Tetrawizard Tournament pits four young people--one each from Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin--against each other in a quest for the Tetrawizard Cup. Anybody wishing to submit themselves as house champion must write their name and house clearly upon a slip of parchment and drop it into the Goblet of Fire. Aspiring champions have twenty-four hours in which to put their names forward. The goblet will return the names of the four it has judged most worthy to represent their houses. The goblet will be placed in the entrance hall, where it will be freely accessible to all those wishing to compete. The placing of your name in the goblet constitutes a binding, magical contract. There can be no change of heart once you have become a champion. Please be very sure, therefore, that you are wholeheartedly prepared to play before you drop your name into the goblet. Before the champions can compete, their wands will be checked by Mr. Ollivander in a short ceremony. He examins each wand and then casts a simple spell. All champions will be interviewed and photographed by Rita Skeeter. The four champions will compete in three tasks, testing several magickal abilities.

Yule Ball

The Yule Ball is Hogsmeade High's biggest role-play event of the year. Students (and teachers) may submit pictures of their dress robes and find themselves a date for the ball. Of course, there are always events that cannot be foreseen - such as an evil snow queen turning the Great Hall into an icy palace, Lucius Malfoy showing up wearing an amulet that turns love into hatred and vice versa, the Italian exchange students causing a lot of excitement among the students, a cunning Slytherin hexing the Minister of Magic, the Chance Dance matching two random people who have to dance with each other... see for yourself.

The pleasure of your company is requested at the
