Plain Muggle Sense

A/N: The challenge was to write a 100-word drabble connected somehow to the scene in PS/SS where Snape patched up his leg with Filch's help. I couldn't help but wonder whether Wizards are familiar with some of the common pitfalls of self-doctoring that can afflict Muggles.

Disclaimer: Harry Potter, Severus Snape, Madame Pomfrey, Argus Filch, and all their associates are characters belonging to J.K. Rowling. I claim no rights to them, their surroundings, or their situations. Much to my sorrow.

"Blasted thing," Snape was saying. Neither he nor Filch noticed Harry watching from the doorway. "How are you supposed to keep your eyes on all three heads at once?"

Filch frowned at the ugly leg wound. "That's a real beaut, Professor. Sure you don't want to take it to Madame Pomfrey?"

"I can't. There'd be questions," Snape grated through his teeth. "Just help me wrap it up."

A few days later, everyone except Harry was surprised when Snape collapsed and was rushed to the hospital wing to be treated for severe blood poisoning.

Wizards, it seemed, hadn't yet discovered iodine.
