He felt Severus's gaze as Dumbledore introduced him...the man's loathing almost literally burning into him, as unnerving now as in their youth.
He wished he could call it undeserved. But that wouldn't be true. And about some things, Remus simply couldn't lie to himself.
He was supposed to have been the authority figure--the Voice of Reason, the one to moderate his fellow Marauders' excesses. Instead, he'd been a spectator. Silently disapproving, but passive as they tormented their victims. Severus being their favorite prey.
He wondered, as Snape surely must, how Dumbledore could trust him with even greater responsibility now.
