| Rainy Days and an Earthquake Chapter 3 Aftershock |
| "God! That must have been a 7 at least!" the woman exclaimed in the dark. "Are you okay?" Michael asked. He was worried she gotten something on her. "Yeah, I'm fine. How about you Mr. Jackson, are you fine?" she asked. "Please call me Michael." he said and then chuckled at himself that he thought of his dislike of being called that at such a time. "Wait here, while I go and get some candles." he continued before she heard his chuckle and started wondering. "Sure, it's not like I'm going somewhere. And by the way, the name is Shannara." she retorted and Michael could hear the humor and the sarcasm in the voice. He managed to find his way to the cupboard in his bedroom, after bumping in to numerous objects on the floor on the way, where he kept candles and a box of matches. He lit a thick black one and brought another big with him together with a few small ones in a bag he found. He made it back slower as he stopped and picked up some of the stuff that had fallen down. Thankful that nothing major had broken, but then he hadn't seen the kitchen yet. When he came back he found Shannara sitting with her legs crossed with the coat folded by her with the hat on it. "There isn't an emergency stair to get me down I suppose?" she asked when she saw him again. "Yes, but it's under repair. Half the stair is wrecked so it's not exactly fit for use." he said and kneeled by her. He put the black candle next to her and put down another thick candle and lit it. "Well, I'm kinda stuck here now." she stated. "Yes, I kinda noted that. Come with me. We can sit down in the living room until the electricity works again. "You lead the way, Michael." she said while she grabbed her clothes and the candle. Michael remembered to grab the food in the last minute before he turned and walked to the living room. He put down the candle and the food on the coffee table. Shannara put down hers too and sat down on the sofa. Michael lined up the other candles he had gotten and lit them up. It lit up the area around them, but the bigger part of the living room was dark. "Can you take a candle and follow me and we can get some more candles?" he asked. "Sure." she said and grabbed a thinner candle. He led the way through the condo and to his bedroom. "This place isn't small." she exclaimed after a while. "No, not exactly. I would have wanted it smaller, but I'm cuffed up here so much I'd probably gone nuts." he said chuckling and turned around. Shannara was smiling at him. Michael decided that being locked up with her might not be that bad. They reached his bedroom and Michael was kinda nervous as he opened the door. It wasn't that it was messy or anything, but letting a stranger see his bedroom made him nervous still. He went straight t the cupboard and gave his candle to Shannara. he then loaded himself up with as many candles as possible before they turned back to the living room. They made another turn and when they had lit all the candles, they could see pretty well in the living room. All tables and shelves were full with candles. A few candles where put on the floor by the windows. When they sat down again Michael's stomach made itself known and Shannara giggled at him. "What so funny?" he asked, trying to sound indignant. "Your stomach made such a funny noise." she said with her shoulders still shaking as another sound was heard. |
