| Rainy Days and an Earthquake Chapter 4 Hunger |
| "I guess I'm not the only one that's hungry." Michael said with a smug smile on his face. "We'll share this." he said." I ordered enough for two anyway." he said as she opened her mouth to protest. "Wait here." Michael said before taking a candle and going to the kitchen. There his fears came to life. Half the floor was covered in glass-splinter. Luckily he could get plates, forks and two cans of coke from the fridge without stepping in it. This time he thanked for the big condo and the extra large kitchen. He managed to balance it all as he walked back to the Shannara. They shared the food and ate gleefully. "So how came you to be a delivery-girl?" Michael asked while eating. "It's an extra job until I finish my studies." she answered and took a sip at her coke. "Why were you wondering?" "Are you still in college?" Michael exclaimed a bit shocked. "No, I graduated two years ago, but I'm taking a few extra courses to fill it out. Why are you so surprised?" she inquired while looking at him wondering. "You just didn't seem that young, that's all. What courses are you taking?" "Advanced Latin and Japanese. I always wanted to learn those languages." she said and shrugged. "What are you gonna do when you're finished?" Michael continued on. "Why are you asking so many questions?" she looked at him with a tilted head and a spark in her eyes. Michael couldn't stop the thought that this wouldn't be bad being stuck here. "Just trying to start a conversation." he answered innocently. "I'm gonna work as a secretary at my uncles firm. At least until I get anything better. Taking literature, religion and language courses doesn't exactly help when getting a good job, if you don't want to become a professor of course." she said with a sad smile and sighed as she picked up and bit into a piece of chicken. "I wish I could speak more languages than English. Can't you teach me some Japanese?" he said chuckling. "Baka!" she exclaimed and laughed. "What did that mean?" he asked. As she didn't answer he put down his food and pushed her. Luckily she wasn't holding anything as she landed in the other corner of the sofa they were sitting in. "Omea o korosu!" she yelled and jumped on him. They wrestled for a while, but it stopped as they rolled around and ended on the floor. Michael was lying on top of Shannara. Her sweater had been pushed up and a pale, smooth stomach was shown. He looked at her at a distance that was suddenly very close. They were very close as the table dug into his back. |
